I believe a great name must be earned. Everyone whose name is related to greatness either has earned the honor for themselves, or has inherited it through the accomplishments of others. Perhaps it may be harder to live up to a great name rather than make one for ourselves(?) However, I believe Compassion has successfully achieved both. It has not only earned a great name through the "works of its hands", but does so through the greatest of all names... Jesus Christ! Something we all need learn to do... all our works through the name of Jesus :) Amen! How does a name become great? I believe a great name must be earned. After opening your heart, you only desire the best for the child. You are willing to do what it takes to help the child reach a better life or a life that God desires for him/her. It's a sacrifice that you are willing to make whether or not the child reciprocates and appreciates what you are doing. Being human, at times you may have heartache (why doesn't my child write, why is my child not succeeding, why was my child taken off the sponsorship list) and think it's not worth doing but something inside of you urges you to keep showing compassion. Think about how God is compassionate with all of us even though we do things that grieve him. His heart is still open to us. I imagine God rejoicing over us when we reach a milestone the way we rejoice over our sponsored children when they reach their milestone. And, Compassion goes beyond caring. I've read that the word Compassion means to "suffer with". Compassion International serves all aspects of each individual child's life, but you suffer with them. You "mourn with those who mourn and rejoice with those who rejoice". You also allow the sponsors, artists, and advocates to do the same. You allow us to stand in partnership with Compassion in "Releasing Children from poverty in Jesus' name."
