National Geographic did an interesting report on malaria in July 2007. According to NG, some scientists believe that one of every two people who have ever lived died of malaria.

It said that netting treated with insecticide, hung over beds can cut infections by half -- and child deaths by a third. Yet only 2% of young children in Africa have these nettings. The cost -- just a few dollars -- discourages many families.

I was so happy when my sponsored child in Ethiopia wrote to say that he had used part of our family gift on insecticide. I pray that more families find help & protection against this illness through Compassion's programs.

Thanks, Robyn. I love that Compassion has engaged this part of the fight against poverty! And while not everyone can make the monthly commitment to sponsor a child, many can contribute $10 to provide the net, training in its use, medication, and the other benefits that come from such a small (to us) amount of money. I love it!
