Any Guesses?

Compassion has 10 partner countries, in addition to the U.S., all of which sponsor children in the developing world.

We work in 24 countries, soon to be 25 when Togo begins registering children later this month in September.

As of May 30, sponsors from the U.S. alone support more than 608,000 children.

Which country do you think has the most U.S. sponsored children? And how many sponsored children do you think that is?

I’m going to guess Rwanda, and say 125,000 children. Because that sounds good and for no other reason :-)

Unless something has changed recently, I could answer this one. But…I’d have to admit that I cheated and looked at the post about it on your old blog! I’m curious to see what others will guess, though. :)

I have no clue, but I’d guess it’s probably a country where you’ve been working for awhile. Number? 200,000?

I’d say Haiti (or the DR) and say the number is 136,728 children.

Are there prizes to be awarded?

I think Bolivia. They have 155 projects.

I thought of you as I was posting and almost said you couldn’t play. :-) It’s also why I threw in the guess about the children.

The prize is knowing something you didn’t know before.

I’m not surprised by your guess.

No one has guessed correctly yet. Also, the guesses are on the high side.

I’m going to say Ethiopia, but I have no clue as to the number.

    Nigeria – 50,000 children

I’m guessing Mexico, because so many U.S. citizens either have some connection there already, or “go with something familiar”, a neighbor to the south – maybe hoping it will be an easier visit in the future. As far as the numbers, I haven’t a clue … 50,000 ?

I also remember this from your old blog, but I have no idea how many children!

Ok, I’m going to guess again. My guess would be Tanzania. The way I came up with that is to look at the Compassion.com website as saw how many children are available to be sponsored from each country. There are 72 children available from Tanzania, which is the highest number for any country.

Now I’m going to assume an average of about 250 children per project/church. Bolivia has 65 children to be sponsored on the website. (I wish, I could sponsor them all, that’s my big financial dream, to empty a country! LOL) Anyways, in Bolivia there are 155 projects, which I would guess would mean 155 x 250 = 38,750 children. Since there are 65 children on the web, then I would say that every child on the web represents 38,750/65, which is about 596.15 children. Thus Tanzania would have 72×596.15 children, which would come out to be: 42,923 children.

That’s probably totally off base, but it is an educated geeky guess! (Sorry, I taught Calculus for 4 years, can’t help it!)

I will guess the Philippines, but I have no idea on the number of children!

My guess is Dominican Republic, 25,000 children sponsored by US sponsors.

We have a winner! At least partially.

    The correct answer is India.

    Good on ya Andrzej.

And there are nearly 59,150 U.S. sponsored children in the country.

Ethiopia is second with close to 49,000 U.S. sponsored children.

I like your geek approach, but you overshot. Bolivia has nearly 30,350 U.S. sponsored children.

    What a surprise!

I just thought India has the biggest population so maybe it has the most US sponsored children…

Just curious, does “India” combine both the India and East India offices, or does Compassion separate the two when counting the sponsored children within the country? :)

We track sponsorships separately for the two offices. The number I gave combined both them.

Is it India and 59,150 children?

Thanks for the answer, Chris…and Dave, I congratulate you on your astonishingly accurate guess.;)
