We trust that as regular readers of our blog, you’re familiar with Michelle, Tony and Richmond — our first three Moody scholars. So we’ll forego the explanation of who they are and get right to the point.
Each one of them is going be in Colorado Springs very soon. And they’ll actually all be here at the same time, which is a rare occurrence.
What this means to you is that we’ve grabbed a sizable block of their time so we can serve as a proxy interviewer on your behalf, kind of like we did with the Ask Wess series of blog posts. But this is going to be captured on video.
Let us know what questions you have for them as former participants in Compassion’s sponsorship program and Leadership Development Program* graduates, students at Moody Bible Institute and emerging Christian leaders, and we’ll get you some answers.
We wanted to do this whole thing live, but the tool we are looking to use isn’t cooperating — at least for now.
We’ll choose the questions we ask from what you submit today and tomorrow.

If you had not been part of Compassion’s program, what would you be doing with your lives right now?
I just wanted to add it was an insane blessing/encouragement/inspiration to meet all of you!!!!!!! I am thankful for especially your testimony Michelle b/c the first time I heard it up in Denver I was like…whooaa, God is AWESOME! It helped me work hard to visit the kids I sponsor in the Philippines and as a sponsor in general. And all three of your testimonies and meeting you has been encouraging!
What are each of your favorite songs?
Mine is “Awesome God” by Rich Mullins. I have heard it in English, Spanish, the chorus in Japanese and found a Youtube version in Kirundi. There is also a rap/R&B version on a children’s worship CD called “Worship JAMZ vol. 2 which I really like as well.
Remember…”Be strong, and courageous for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go!!!!!!!” I will remember it too 😉
What verses and or practices do you cling to when you are feeling down/tempted/or discouraged?
What are the 3 the most interesting places you have visited in the world?
I have several questions about gift giving. Recently, on the blog there has been talk about family gifts and if it is more appropriate to give them to celebrate a holiday (Christmas or Easter) or any time. Some questions were raised about if giving it as gift for Christmas would seem less of a ‘hand out’, which would be good as sponsors want (or should want) to avoid dependence. Do any of you feel that there is a more appropriate time than another for family gifts? If so, when? Is it better to give a gift with an intended purpose? If so, how should a sponsor find out what purpose to state? Is it be better to send $25 or 75 2-3 times a year, or save it up to send more at once a year as that could be used for larger purchases?
I want to give gifts to my sponsored child (and have in the past), but I want to respect the family at the same time. I understand you can’t ask all the questions, but answers to any of them (or a brief discussion about family gifts among Michelle, Tony and Richmond) would be appreciated!
First I would like to say that I am so excited for the opportunity you have to be at Moody. I am looking forward to seeing how God works in and through you during your time there. I will remember you in my prayers as you make the transition to living in Chicago and studying at Moody Bible Institute.
I’m curious about your expectations regarding Moody. What are you most looking forward to during your time at Moody? And what part of being there do you think will be the biggest challenge for you?

What were the greatest motivators driving you toward success in the LDP?
I graduated from Moody in 1995 and I had a large number of international friends from all over the world. Most came to prepare for ministry but many ended up staying in America/ the developed countries. Do you find the attention and life style addictive? And if so how do you keep yourself grounded in your calling and in Christ and not be tempted to stay in American for the money and life style?
Congratulations to all three of you for the amazing lives you are living. My question for you is: What would you tell your sponsor if they were standing in front of you today?
My question for you guys is what do you see as some of your biggest Victories in your life…what current and or future challenges do you hope to overcome?
