cbc battle of the blades Hockey fans best know Valeri Bure for his 10-season career in the NHL. Today, the former right wing for the Montreal Canadiens and the Calgary Flames spends as much time as possible with his wife, Candace Cameron-Bure (best known as D.J. Tanner on Full House) and their three children – Natasha, Lev and Maksim.

Now Bure is back on the ice —this time as a competitor on Battle of the Blades, airing Sundays and Mondays on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). And he’s competing for Compassion.

We had the opportunity to speak with Valeri about his faith, being a Compassion sponsor, and why he chose to support Compassion in Battle of the Blades.

The full interview will be seen in the January issue of our magazine, but Val has a message to share with everyone today.

“When they asked me to do [Battle of the Blades], it was a great opportunity to skate for a charity that I’m passionate about and get awareness out there. The little bit that we do with our kids goes so far. And to be able to get a good amount of money going to Compassion, that’s going to be absolutely unbelievable.

“Hopefully people can vote for us! I want people to know that I’m competing for children around the world who are getting fed and clothed and spiritually fed as well. It’s an unbelievable opportunity and one that I want to get bigger and bigger.”

All of us at Compassion Canada are so grateful that Val is supporting the work that Compassion is doing in partnership with the local church — to see the gospel go forward while also meeting the physical, social and economic needs of children living in poverty.

Canadians: Tune in every Sunday to CBC and support Val and his skating partner with your votes. We all support them with our prayers.

I wish we could see this show in the US, I’ve watched some clips on YouTube and it looks fun! I also saw Candace’s testimony and how she “won her husband to Christ without a word”. What a neat opportunity to get the word out about Compassion (and hopefully raise some money!) and to hear how God is working in the Bure’s lives. Looking forward to reading the whole interview.
