That’s why I love Compassion! It really focuses on the children – on building into them and developing them and guiding them and most important of all – loving them. Compassion gives children hope that they can rise above their circumstances, reminding them that each one is precious and treasured and so valuable to God.

This is what I say every time I speak about Compassion in churches — the plan is to help just one child at a time — exactly the way Jesus did. We can all do our part.

It just makes so much more sense, to me, to invest in a child’s life, with complementary assistance to the community as needed to address great needs, than investing more in the community in the hope that, one day, somehow, the child will benefit. Children are not only “our future”; as Wess says, they are our *now.* They can do more, accomplish more, understand more, than our culture gives them credit for. And they need more.

This is what I love about Compassion and why sponsoring my kids is so important to me. I want to help them to be taken care of today but I also want them to have a future much brighter than their present.
