It’s been eight months since my last sponsor letter photos post, so I felt it was high time to raid our digital library again and round up another batch of photos showing sponsored children reading letters from their sponsors. Hope you like ‘em.

Thanks for sharing these pictures. Every once in awhile, I will pull all the letters from one of my kids and reread them as well. It is amazing the connection you feel towards them when you communicate with them via letters. And how incredible that we get these years to speak words of life and hope into them.

Good one Mike, only at our house you would have to start at the mail box, when a person realizes that there’s a letter and goes through the ’should I hide it and hog it all to myself’ phase into the ‘ha ha, I got it first’ phase and the ensuing wrestling match for the ultimate victory of being the first to read it

that’s a great problem to have
I do not have that problem currently b/c my parents sponsor their own child and on occasion I do read their letters but have plenty of my own

I looked at some of the cyclone/typhoon pictures and am amazed how I can see the devastation and just not feel anything even though I know they must have lost so much! I simply cannot relate b/c nothing like that has never happened to me. I have felt loss, just in different ways…smaller ways like losing my Compassion backpack which doesn’t come close to losing a house.

I know I’m biased, but the picture with the three girls has to have three of the cutest Compassion kids ever who write the greatest letters.

@Lauri Alward – That’s amazing! Thanks for sharing! I just became a sponsor in July and haven’t yet received my first letter – and I can’t wait! These pictures make me want to sit down and write another one myself, just to know that my child gets that excited and that someday, thanks to your post, I’m going to be able to run into the house and share with everyone that I got a letter!

I have sent letters to the sponsored child, but I have not seen any picutres of him and his family nor have I received any information about him since last writing to him.

Hi Marian — It’s taken about 6 months for me to receive the first letter from my sponsored children. After that, the time is usually more like 3-4 months at the most between letters. Keep sending mail to your child! He will receive it and enjoy it even if it takes some time for you to hear back.

@Marian – Hi, Marian – I have received a first letter in as little as two months and as long as 4 months, but I have heard a number of people who have waited for 6 months. Part of it, I think, depends on the country, possibly on the processes at the given project. It may also depend on where the project is located and accessibility between there and the country office. I have often said that child sponsorship is an ongoing lesson in delayed gratification.
When that first letter comes, it may be full of warmth and gladness on the part of the child; or a somewhat quieter thanks to you for your sponsorship. It may also be a form letter used by the project and including some basic information about the child.
Please keep in mind that even children in our own culture need time to learn to write letters–which is often a foreign concept in the countries where our children live. Some will be more expressive than others, but with patience on your part, a lot of love and encouragement in your letters, a relationship will develop. Meanwhile, your child will be receiving an education, a good meal at the center, medical/dental care, and spiritual training with many opportunities to receive Jesus Christ.
It’s worth the wait!

That was so great! When I visited my compassion child, Daniel in Bolivia, he had all of my letters and pictures together in a box. He had one of the pictures I had sent him up in his home. It was so great!
