Children Living in Poverty

False… 1/2 live in poverty.

This is kind of a tricky question.

I’m going to say True, for this reason:

The statistic I found states that half of the children in the WORLD are living in poverty, and that can include the developed countries such as Europe and North America (and we’ve got poverty here in the States, too!)

False. The percentage is much higher.

I say false.

I think it’s higher too; 1/2 of the children living in the world live in poverty; those in developing countries alone would be much higher.

I say False as well, for the same reason as Tom and Juli.

I’m going to say false because in my handbook it says…
“In developing countries, more than 1/3 children live on less than $1 day”.
(and that was updated in May 2004)

Over 30 percent of children in developing countries live on less than $1 a day.

so I am going to say that yes, it is true, but the fraction might actually be higher.

Sara–you are so right — it is this figure and higher, so could actually be said to be true!

Too funny…technically TRUE, but if I were answering a test question- but FALSE, because more children live in poverty.
Maybe we’ll have to write an essay to explain our answers. LOL!

The answer is:

True. Of the 1.8 billion children in developing countries, 600 million of them live on less than U.S. $1 a day.
