christmas in october Advent candles in October? Wait a minute? Christmas is still 2 1/2 months away!

advent candles

Now I know it is just the beginning of October, but given the fact that mail to our sponsored children can take 2 to 3 months, now is the time to find and pin some creative Christmas items to make and send to our sponsored children this year.

Print out these Bible verse ornaments on card stock for your sponsored child. To make them a little more durable, laminate them or cover them with clear contact paper.

Get your kids and family involved with this one! Have different family members use their hand print for the camels. Just make sure your paper is no longer than 8 1/2 by 11 inches.

How about a few questions to ask your sponsored child about Christmas?

  • How do you celebrate Christmas with your family?
  • What special Christmas traditions are there in your country?
  • Do you have a favorite Christmas song?
  • Do you prefer to give gifts or receive them?
  • What is your favorite Christmas memory?

Have you joined our Second Friday Writing Club on Pinterest? If not, be sure to leave the URL for your Pinterest profile in a comment below, and I will add you to our growing group of “pinners”!

I would love for you to join us in finding wonderful projects and ideas to share with our sponsored children each month.

So I purchased some paint with water coloring pages that have the paints attached to every page (wish I knew how to attach a picture). Do you think that these will be okay to send?

Hi Angie! Regrettably, we can only send paper items so the coloring pages would be fine but the paints would not. I’m so sorry that you have already bought them! Maybe you could remove the paints and just send the coloring pages? Each Compassion student center has coloring items at the project for the children to use.

I have created the Christmas ornaments in Spanish in Powerpoint . I would love to upload them so that others can use them. Is this possible, and if so, how?

I know the final date to send Christmas donations is October 31 to arrive by Christmas but what is the approximate final date for mail to arrive in time for Christmas??

Hi Christina! We actually recommend getting all gifts and letters in before October 31 to ensure delivery in time for Christmas. Gifts and letters take roughly the same time to be sent. We like to keep it simple that way. 😉

I have 3 sponsored children, Bolivia, Haiti and Dom Republic.
I receive updated pictures of our child in Bolivia, but have not received any from Haitia or Dom Republic.
Is it possible to send monetary gift to the center of our children and request them to purchase a camera so that updates would be available to us as the child matures? The camera would be available to all children of the center. Perhaps one of the new Polaroid cameras? Thanks.

Hi Judy! What a creative idea! I like it! :) Currently, full case study and photo updates are done every two years for each child. You are welcome to send a student center gift and you may make designations. However, the ultimate decision about how the gift will be used is based upon the greatest need of the center. We have cameras available for when a child or family gift exceeds $60 to take a picture of the child, family, and gifts. We are also working to make updates more frequent and better quality. Stay tuned for these types of updates in the next few years!

Is there anyone going on this trip? My husband and I are going, our first trip. It would be nice to communicate with you and get some ideas on what to bring, etc. Who knows, maybe we live near each other. Judith Poisson
