Thank God for this man! :) I love to read these stories about Ethiopia because I have two sponsored girls there. They're not exactly in Addias Ababa but I relish all news about their beloved homeland. :)

Barbara, it sounds unusual to me. I'm assuming that the letter you received from the project worker came to you through Compassion's usual routing. You can call the 800# and ask is they show it in the computer. I think whoever you talk to can tell you that; if not, ask who can.

Vicky, Your last post prompts this question. A while back because I had not yet heard from my child even for the first time I received a letter from his project worker saying that he was unable to write because he was working in another province in Thailand. She asked that I please continue to write and support him. I found that a little unusual and wrote back to her saying I, of course, would. I never was told that my letter was never sent. To this day, however, I have not yet heard from this child. Is this unusual?

This is a wonderful post. I love the insight that this blog gives us on just how effective sponsorship is, not just on the child being sponsored but also the whole community surrounding them. It's like watching the ripples on the sea made by throwing in one tiny stone.

This post describes transformation in progress. Not only are children's lives being changed, so are their parents' lives and their view of themselves in relation to changing their circumstances for the benefit of all in their families. How many transformed families does it take to transform a community?

Shelly, I sympathize with your desire to write to project staff. Even knowing that that is not allowed by Compassion, I recently asked to be allowed to write to a project director. I was almost desperate to get more timely, up-to-date information about a family situation involving one of my girls. The answer was "No." I understood, but it obviously wasn't what I'd wanted to hear.

However, I'm wondering if that prompted some action at the other end, because yesterday, I received a letter from that child, and it is the most forthcoming, specific letter about her family's circumstances that she has ever written. So I don't think my request was for naught.

Thank you so much for sharing some details of the work in Ethiopia. I often wish there was a way that we, as sponsors, could also send our thanks to the workers of the local programs. Are letters to the staff of the programs our sponsored children attend possible?

Again, thank you. Our prayers will continue for the children and all the workers of Compassion.
