Compassion Sri Lanka

In addition to the expectation and excitement of registering our first child in Togo later this year, I’m very excited to say that two weeks ago our Board of Directors unanimously approved plans to begin work in Sri Lanka.

Of course, there is still much preparation that needs to be done to launch this new country, but we’ve proposed a timeline that includes registering the first children in Sri Lanka during the summer of 2009.

Please pray with us that this will be a smooth process, that doors will open as needed and that many little lives in Sri Lanka will be changed for eternity.

One more down, how many countries to go? :-)

Oh, I can think of so many countries I know we’d all like to be in! If I had the power to decide (on admittedly very limited knowledge), I would suggest Ukraine and Zimbabwe for our next target countries. But we’ll take ‘em as we can, and I’m excited to see that #26 has already been determined!

hmmm… just a little curious but I was wondering how compassion decides on which countries will become field countries? like what is the process and all… I would suggest China!!

Hi Rebecca, here is some information that can help you better understand how we choose the countries we work in!

I am curious, when will the Sri Lanka children be registered and sponsored seeing that summer 2009 is quickly ending?

  7. Chris GiovagnoniNo Gravatar Says:

@alyson – We postponed our plans for expanding into Sri Lanka because of the recession and the budget constraints we adopted as a result.

I was just about ask about the time line and then I saw Alyson’s post. I am praying that God will provide the finances and open doors to reach out to the Sri Lanka kids soon.

It was announced today that we have opened our Sri Lanka office, which was a tremendous turn around from what I was recently told.

Part of the ability to move forward comes from the fact that we’ll be introducing the Child Survival Program first, well before we introduce the sponsorship program.

That is great to hear. I will be praying for the details in getting the Child Survival Program up and running. Thanks for keeping us updated.
