Today is the first day of our Global Leadership Forum (GLF). Huh? What’s that?
It’s an annual conference of all our leadership throughout the world, gathered together in one place to discuss the future of Compassion.
This year’s theme is “Strengthen the Core,” to grow in our global unity.
I’ll eventually have a post for you to read, but it’ll probably be after the conference is over.
However, you can follow along on Twitter as things happen.

I have to say something that has been weighing on my heart. There is a movement now called the “Social Gospel.” It basically says that we must solve all the world’s ills to promote the Kingdom of God on Earth in order to make the world a better place. Although I’m a strong supporter and sponsor of a child on Compassion…I was drawn to support him though Compassion b/c they shared the Gospel with him. I know believe that the mission could not be biblical. “Preaching the Gospel so people get saved is the main thing!” But when we feed the poor and fail to share the message of salvation, we basically meet their physical needs only and not there spiritual. I hope Compassion is not headed down this road!

Thank you for sharing that with me Jacquie! I understand that and that’s why I have supported Compassion! But here is my issue recently:
I believe (my opinion) that Wess being a man of integrity shouldn’t even unite with a Conference such as the Leadership Summit. Because Willow Creek is supposed to be representing the church, however they are compromising by bringing in unsaved individuals and listening to the wisdom of the world. When it comes to spiritual enterprises….we shouldn’t unite with such people. I think when Wess decides to join the Conference..he is giving it credibility by being there.
“For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their own craftiness”; and again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.” (1 Cor. 3:19-20)
People who have completely unbiblical worldviews will be speaking there and I don’t think we should unite with such individuals. Just my thoughts and convictions.

Amen, Julie! I presume the GLF is a warm-up, of sorts, for the International Advocates Conference scheduled next month in DR–y’know, one of the places that keeps getting hit by the hurricanes and tropical storms, tho’ not to the same extent, apparently, as Haiti.
Anyway, I anticipate that conference attendees will learn all kinds of neat things that will have come out of the GLF. Cool, huh! And both the GLF and the conference call for a lot of prayer, from all of us.

Okay, rethought what I wrote. I’m not disappointed that you guys are getting together and talking about the future of Compassion-that’s AWESOME!

That sounds awesome. What a great oppurtunity to have a big brain storm with God controlling the storm!
But I was a bit disappointed. Why? Because I saw the title and saw forum and I have been thinking that Compassion needs a forum. 🙂
On a selfish, I need a Compassion forum today (so build me one! haha KIDDING). I have a little question that will impact our family in a huge way and I am needing some guidance. It has to do announcing our adoption plan to family and friends by starting a new sponsorship from the same area. We want to be able to visit our sponsored child when we travel there (in about 2 years) to pick up our adopted child, but would prefer if the child lived near by. I found a family who has done this, but there sponsored child had to ride a bus for 12 hours to get there.
So sorry for going off topic, but I called Compassion and they were able to tell me that there are a lot of centers near where we are adopting, but didn’t have the means to tell us which ones.
