‘In Jesus’ Name’ Sets Us Apart

For thousands of years, the Church has wrestled with how to tackle poverty. Even today, many ministries around the globe deal with the issue in varying ways.
The one thing that has kept this ministry on the right track for more than 55 years is more than just our holistic approach to releasing children from poverty. It is the three little words—“In Jesus’ name”—that make the difference.
So how do we continue to do what we do in Jesus’ name? Is it up to the staff and volunteers in the field to share Jesus with the children? Is it Marketing’s job to ensure those three words remain on the paper we print? Do we continue to remind everyone we come in contact with that what we do is done in Jesus’ name?
Yes, those things are all important, but they are the by-product of something deeper, something that comes from within each one of us.
Jesus says, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” He makes it personal for every one of us, saying that without Him we can do nothing.
We are called to abide in Him, and He promises that He will abide in us. Webster’s defines the word “abide” this way: to stand fast, remain, to submit to.
We will continue to release children from poverty in Jesus’ name as long as each of us continues to abide in Him, as long as we each remember that without Him, we can do nothing. Make it personal today. If we compromise our faith, it doesn’t just hurt us. Our family, friends, co-workers, and even the children need each of us to abide.
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” —John 15:5
Prayer: Lord, help us remain faithful and abide in you. We look forward to all you desire to do through us. Have your way in our lives, and continue to release children from poverty “in Jesus name.”
