I’m so excited to see it’s here – from my 2 minutes of browsing it looks great!

I love that it’s colorful. It has a nice layout that is user-friendly. I like the bright yellow “donate now” and “sponsor a child” buttons. Those really jump off the page. I like the square dedicated to “sponsor an older child.”

The only thing I’d change is at the top of the page, where it says “Compassion Store” and “Blog” — I’d make that font a size or two bigger. (My elderly neighbor said she had a hard time reading those words because they were “small and fuzzy.”)

I love it!!! I think you guys did a great job.

Oh wait, I DO have one complaint/request. I don’t see anything on this front page facilitating letter writing. I would take the “Write My Child” link out from under the “Get Involved” button. I would put it in that top row between “Get Involved” and “Donate Now” and make it a colored button, (maybe a green or red one so it stands out.)

I am unable to report feedback here: . After I fill out the form, and click Submit, it says “Your form has one or more errors, please review it and correct any missing or incorrect fields.” I didn’t leave anything blank, and nothing is highlighted as a problem but I think there are fields missing in the form, and since I don’t see them, they are technically blank, and your system doesn’t realize I can’t see the fields to fill them out. (For example, sponsor ID# is not visible, and usually you ask that).

One other area, not exactly because of the “new” website, is that on your events page, you have an old URL for Thrive. They’ve dropped the “Bayside” in the event name and just call it Thrive or Thrive Conference. The correct website is thriveconference dot org. Your Events page still refers people to their 2009 URL. Thanks!!

Other feedback, is I love the new look in general but would LOVE the children’s ages to be visible again in the thumbnails.

I haven’t explored the website for more than a few minutes on my lunch break. From my brief visit, I am quite pleased with how easy it is to find things about the country one sponsors a child in all in one place without having to dig to find them! The page loads quite quickly for me, which I hope happens with everyone as some people can’t load their profiles on OC since the website is really slow (and yes, mine does take longer than some other pages) and were worried that the new CI site would be similarly slow.

One suggestion for improvement would be to add a link on where the brief country information is for each child to the country link from the drop-down menu at the top, which is much more in depth. Even if it is only added in the my account section and not for kids waiting for sponsors (to not overwhelm people searching for kids), sponsors who don’t explore all of the website might find it useful. Or perhaps add links within the FAQ discussing about sponsors getting updates on their child that include country information to include links to those country webpages?

The questions about communication on the FAQ are great. I love that the FAQ is easy to find! Although it mentions how to communicate, it doesn’t answer the question why it matters. Maybe adding a question about ‘Why should I write to my sponsored child’ or’ Are letters to my sponsored child important, isn’t money enough’, or something of that nature, which has already been answered in multiple blogs and would just need to be condensed for the FAQ. The answer about how one communicates with his or her sponsored child delves into this issue, so perhaps there is a reason CI to put it there rather than as a separate question. I’m sure you guys spent lots of time thinking about what questions to post!!

I am absolutely loving the new website! I especially love the changes that you have made to the “My Account” area. I think it is great that when you go to your child’s info page, it gives you the opportunity right on the page to write a letter to your child, with all there interests and info right there. I think that will really help in the writing process of thinking of questions/things to discuss in the letters we write online.

I also just really love how their information pages are laid out with their photos and the info on top, including when the sponsorship begin, and their age on their next birthday.

Beautiful you guys! I can tell a lot of thought and work went into this, and I think it was all well worth it! As for the little quirks that have been mentioned, I think those are expected when making such big changes, and am sure we will all be understanding as you work them out :)

Another suggestion I’d like to see down the road is, a way to search children by Project. For instance, if I am able to financially support another child in the future, I’d like to look for one in the same project as a child I’m already supporting. I feel a particular allegiance to both the new project ET755 that just opened in April 2011, and where I sponsor a 4yo girl; as well as the Onzole Pueblo Escogido EC389 which serves a tiny community of people nestled alongside the Onzole River, including my 11yo girl. I hope to visit both children some day and don’t THINK I’d add a third location to my efforts, when i’m sure there are more kids in those areas. It’d be nice to support more kids “local” to the ones I’m already attached to.

I’d like to see this also. There are specific projects in several areas that I would like to chose my next child from, when the time comes.

    • Jun 14, 2011
      at 8:36 am

Debbie T on OC taught me a trick that might help you find kids in your project. If you search for the country of interest you can then move your mouse over the child’s photo and in the lower left of your browser (in firefox and I believe IE also) you will see the link to the webpage that would show up, which at the end has something like BR3338888 (made up number) and BR333 is the child’s project. It’s a bit faster to search this way than opening up every child’s profile to read the project name. It’s not as effiient as a search option, but definitely works for now.

That’s already what I do ha ha!!! But I’d still like it to be a dropdown, so I don’t have to hover over 108 kids in Ethiopia, and then 94 kids in Ecuador just to see if either of my two favorite projects have new kids LOL :)

But that is a great tip that I’m sure others do NOT know yet, so thanks for sharing (when I should have, LOL)

It seems like the country info for Guatemal and the student center (GU892) info hasn’t been updated since 2002. Is there a way to get more recent info? Or more details about the numbers of children in the center and the area? (I realize there are many, many centers so this might be burdensome, but I think it would be nice.)

I have a huge problem with the new site. First, I couldn’t find were the tours information would be located. I finally found it and was dismayed at the differences. The old site had a main list down the middle of the page with the tours you could actually register for. Down the right side was a list of tours thru June of 2012, even if you couldn’t register for it yet. I have to plan where I am going as far ahead as I can, so I ask for the time off, even before you can actually sign up. And since I sponsor kids in multiple countries and plan my compassion trip around other events, I need to know which country trip will work best with my schedule and I can’t do that if all I can see is the open trips! Please find a way to put that information back on the web page.

First off, the site looks great! Well done and the new account system sounds like it will be really excellent.

Just wondering why Non-USA sponsors have to take an extra step in order to create a web account and enter in more information?
Also if the first “Create an Account” page is only for US sponsors than why does it list “Zip Code/Postal Code” under “Step 2″?

Again it all looks great and I look forward to using it!
Bless you guys in all you do!

LOVE it. I especially love the features in your acct where it says “sponsored since” (I always wondered about that with my kids!) and also where it gives the current age of the child and how old they will be on their next birthday! So awesome! Keeps me from doing math in my head 😉
The two things that I miss are the “I’m sponsored” window where you can see all of the precious faces that have been sponsored, as well as the ages of the children listed below their thumbnail pic.
I have also noticed that sometimes when you first go to the home page, there is a pink box that states “no children matching your criteria were found” or something like that, instead of automatically highlighting children, which I think is the goal for that part of the page.
No official “complaints”, though. Love, love, love it so far!

I second most of this. Love the extra info on each of my kiddos (sponsor date, b-day, etc), but I do miss the “I’m sponsored” window for recently sponsored kids. It is nice to see those, sometimes I recognize little ones that I have been recently praying for!

I also miss seeing the age of the child with the picture when many children show up with a search.

I also need to note that I have had search issues. For example, I did a search for girls who have been waiting the longest and it came back that there was nothing that matched my search criteria. When I did a more generic search with less specific info (no preference on gender but still longest waiting) I could clearly see girls listed.

Thanks for all you do, overall the site is well done!

I love the new website too; great work. Especially good points — grouping info by country, together with country-specific opportunities to sponsor and country-specific blog links; also grouping my kids’ information together; also the crisp, clear one-liners on the home page as to what Compassion is all about. Thanks for a fantastic job.

Opportunity for improvement: as someone already mentioned, easier access to future trip information. Once we get to a Country page, under “Take Action” you can click on “Learn about trips and visits to X” but that simply takes you to a generic trip information page. From that page you can get a quick link to “Previous Trips” and from there maybe see to link to future trips, but I bet your computer gurus could make a nice shortcut for future trips — either on the Country page and/or on the summary page for the child I sponsor. As a sponsor, I want to go see my child and that’s where I would likely look for an upcoming trip opportunity.

Love the new look of the site. I agree that the My Account and seeing your child’s info is great and you can quickly click from the child’s info to the project and country very easily. I found it very easy to get around. I like the suggestion of being able to search by project number when adding additional children. I agree to that I think it is great listing the Sponsored since date. Praying for the development team that they are able to breath easier and that the technology would cooperate with their efforts! We appreciate all they are trying to do!

I can’t seem to find the gift lists for each country. On the other site, they were under the country pages, bottom right, and it was a list of what could possibly be bought in the different countries with different dollar amounts. I loved those pages – very encouraging to see what our dollar could do. Does anyone know where those pages are on this new site?

I like the new website, but when you send a letter, the content from the last letter stays in the box when you switch pages. So if I sent my girl a letter and opened a new page to send my boy a letter, the letter to my girl is still in the box. Then if I browse the site a bit and come back to the write a letter page, the content of the letter is still there. Also, I don’t know if it’s like this with other countries, but I am getting a lot of error pages when I search up Bangladesh kids with extra search options on.

Sarah, when you say, “search up Bangladesh kids with extra search options on” do you mean when you are doing a sponsor a child search? If so, we do know about that and are working on it. If not, let me know. If you have time I’d like to have you send me some screen shots so I can show them to the team. I can’t tell you how much feedback like this is helping us work out some of these bugs — so thank you!!

Hi, I just saw another place where info didn’t get transferred. When I look up my child information, it used to list how many siblings and how many people lived in the home. It’s not there anymore. I use this info for when I go to visit, so I can buy the right number of items to include the whole family. It’s quicker than going back thru all the letters to find the info. I do love the sponsored since feature! I could never remember if it was 10 or 11 years! (it’s 10)
    God bless

Sorry to bother again, but as I was looking at my kids I noticed that the LDP student I sponsor wasn’t on the drop down box with the other kids. No biggie, I just went to my account info, found him and clicked on his name. I saw his photo, but it said his birthdate was unknown. (it’s not his b-day is 9/18/91) and there was no button for additional giving under his name, nor was there under the additional giving blue block. I usually do all my birthday gifts from the web, I can certainly call, and will call for Jay’s b-day gift, but it would be nice if the same info/options were available for LDP students as CDSP kids. Thanks!
    God bless

Just a couple notes for you. On the advocates events summary I am listed twice – once with an e-mail and once without. Also, under my sponsorships, the “completion date” on the older ones is not easy to decipher. I think it used to show up as a date format. Again – good job. I enjoy exploring the new site!

I wrote my child in Honduras on the new site. I pushed the post button and I was sent to another page and couldn’t get back. It didn’t post and I didn’t receive a confirmation e-mail copy of my letter.

Then I wrote my child in Ethiopia and it said that it had posted and I received a comfirmation e-mail.

So I decided to write my boy in Honduras again. The letter didn’t post for the second time. Oh my! I am discourage since I have spent about an hour writing these 2 letters.
Did anyone else have a problem like this?

For the list of events/conferences/festivals, I see that some have the dates listed next to them, which is a big help! I’d also request that you also list the city/state, so that we don’t have to click on every event’s website to figure out where it is. This would allow people to scan the list and say “hey! that’s right near me!” without doing intensive research. Thank you!
