Is the Word in You?

David the psalmist was a man after God’s own heart. Being human, he did sin.

But David was a man who acknowledged his sins and always sought forgiveness immediately after he realized he had erred. David had the Word of God in his heart, and that kept him from remaining in his sins. Having the Word of God in us is the key to keep us from sinning.

Where have you kept the “Word”?

Having the Bible in your bag, under your pillow, or on your desk is not enough. The only way to walk blameless before God is by reading and meditating on it, allowing the Word to prune you, shape you, and enable you to become a candidate for heaven.

“For the Word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword” (Hebrews 4:12). Remember, everything shall pass away except the Word of God (Luke 21:33).

As people who are called into children’s ministry, we need to be clothed with righteousness and filled with the Word to feed these little ones. A blind man cannot lead his fellow blind man, for they will both fall into the pit.

These children that the Lord has entrusted into our care need to be mentored in His ways. You cannot give what you do not have. If you have the Word in you, then you can impact lives. “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it” (Proverbs 22:6).

Although most of us do not directly teach these children, a lamp placed on a hilltop cannot be hidden. As the spirit enriches us with God’s Word, the rippling effect will be felt by even the farthest child.

I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. —Psalm 119:11, NIV

Prayer: Lord, plant in us the desire to seek you continually through your Word.
