wow, I went to the Compassion site in kibera two years ago, we went to church there. And meet some of the children, the school and paster. To hear that the desk's were burned gives me great sadness. And to read these letters from the kids, it breaks my heart. But the Joy that i have seen in those children eyes was like no other child i have ever seen. Compassion is doing get work there. Helping children with health care and school.

I have been to Kibera a few years ago and those children ask for nothing, because of my trip to Kenya in 05 I now sponsor a child in Kenya and love writing and receiving letters from her. I also have learned KiSwahili and I have a passion and hope to go back to Kenya one day.

Letters from Kenya is powerful. True the power of prayer is overlooked but equally ignored is how we measure happiness. Stephan is on point in stating that happiness is distorted when based on circumstances rather than one's calling and one's relationship with God.

When I went to visit our sponsored children for the first time, we started our sponsor tour in a slum in a slum of Santo Domingo, in the Dominican Republic. I was tired from traveling, had a headache, and was just there to meet my sponsored child (which wouldn't happen until a few days later). In other words, I did not go with the best attitude.

That first day, I was approached by a little girl. I asked her name. Her name was the same as one of my daughter's. I told her so, and showed her a picture. To that she replied, "tell your daughter she is beautiful, and I hope God blesses her every day of her life." It was a moment I will never forget.

That little girl was desperately poor, yet she asked for nothing, and offered blessings to my beloved child. That moment, touched me deeply, and opened my eyes to what God is doing through the ministry of Compassion.

Thanks so much for sharing! I love to hear about children sharing letters with one another. Just think -- sponsor a child and you can write letters to each other all the time! We need each others' insights and perspectives; we truly do.
