Beginning today and continuing through this Friday (Sept. 25), we will send out tweets about specific children in need of sponsors.
And we’d like you to retweet them for us.
When you do, you’ll be eligible to win your choice of some free Live for Him* apparel:
- T-shirts
- caps
- rings
- wristbands
Every retweet counts as an entry, and winners will be randomly selected.
Once that child is sponsored, we’ll tweet information about another child, and we’ll follow that process for the duration of the week.
UPDATE: 9:05 a.m. – When you click on the child link in a tweet and you don’t see the specific child’s biography, it means that somone is considering the sponsorship. If the sponsorship isn’t finalized within 50 minutes, the child will be visible again.
*Live for Him products help support unsponsored children in our Child Sponsorship Program, as a portion of each product sold is donated to our Unsponsored Children’s Fund.
I think that could work very well, as long as some information would be given about the child. In other words… What if you could bring the child with you alive, the child would be sponsored in no time. Also, as long as people understand also that to sponsor a child also means to pray for them and to write them, otherwise it is just funding a child.
So, a great tweet might be:
I am looking for a sponsor for a 7 year old boy named Yhonne. He lives with his mother and three other children north of La Paz, Bolivia. I sponsor a child named Roxana in his student center too. Do you know someone, who could sponsor him?
I actually am looking for a sponsor for this boy!

I did take the liberty of figuring the children were siblings, which may or may not be correct. I do agree that personalizing them is a good idea, but with only 140 characters it is a bit tough!

I sponsor and my children enjoy writing to their “Pen Pal” in Africa. We receive frequent letters from Sarah, with information about her grades, her art work and family. When we sent her extra money for Christmas, we received a list of how she spent the money: rice, flour, sugar, books and shoes. Wish my California kids were that responsible!

The first child we tweeted about, 5-year old Ajit in Bangladesh has been “considered” three times today – meaning people have said “I am interested in sponsoring him, and I don’t want anyone to sponsor him before I do.”
But then the sponsorship hasn’t been finalized, and Ajit becomes available again.
5-year old Ajit has been sponsored. And two other children were sponsored by people who came to compassion.com via Twitter.
We’ll tweet another child tomorrow.

Round two has started. We’re looking for a sponsor for 8-year old Melat in Ethiopia.

Our two day total is 12 sponsorships through Twitter.
This is a great idea! A bunch of kids will get sponsored through this week and hopefully many more poeple will consider sponsoring in the future.

We’re still looking for a sponsor for yesterday’s child, 10-year old Denis in El Salvador.
For the week, 13 children have been sponsored and someone also made a monthly commitment to one of our Complementary Intervention funds.
Denis has been sponsored! And the total for the week is now 15 children and one monthly CIV commitment.

BTW, Yhonny got sponsored. Now, I’m looking for a sponsor for Erick Poma from Bolivia. He is in a student center, where I’ve been several times and I know the staff. If someone sponsors Erick, I can send them all sorts of extra pictures of the center and of the staff. In that center, the whole center lined up to personally hug me. This is quite an exhausting thing at 14,000 feet high!

I have had that same experience, in the process of looking for one child, several other children get sponsored.
I’m still looking for a sponsor for Erick. I hope that Erick will get sponsored soon, because I’ve been to his project several times now and I have so many photos and videos to share of that project.
