Such a sad story. How many of our children’s families survive in this manner, or very close to this way? If I knew that this was the situation for my child’s family, I’d definitely do what I could to send a more substantial family gift. We’re allowed to send up to $300 a year…I sent $50, since that’s about a month’s salary in my child’s area. I don’t know how far it will go yet, though.

This gives whole new meaning to the concept of an “open-air market.” I cannot fathom what it is really like to “shop” at the garbage pile in order to feed my family. God have mercy on our ungrateful, complaining hearts!

Hey everyone-
I feel the same way…I go on with my little life, stepping over Lazurus…
I like seeing these “real life” photos. I’m thinking of making a link to my blog with, for example, a picture of this “farmers market” next to a picture of one here in the US. Not to guilt people, but just to illustrate the difference, putting into perspective how much we, especially in the US, have.

Do you ever just stop dead in your tracks in the grocery store and wonder “what in the world?” We shop, throwing items into our carts as though it were the most normal thing in the world. This is one of the many things I love about Compassion, it shows us how it really is for most of the world. I second Megan’s comments. Thank you Compassion for being there and keeping us well informed.

How do we let this go on, while we hoard goods and waste resources to glorify ourselves.

May God richly bless those like Lazarus, who suffer in silence at our gates while we indulge our lusts. How incomplete is our sanctification.

Wow…I cannot imagine. I will NOT complain about the price of groceries anymore…I will be thankful that I have the opportunity and the ability to buy fresh food from a grocery store.

Wow! This one breaks my heart! I’m so glad they are getting the help from Compassion. I just can’t imagine knowing that my daughter had to get food for my grandchildren this way!
