Brandon,

thank you for sharing!!! I do not know if you knew this but a girl from the Domincan Republic drew a picture of a street dog saving a dalmation which was the rich dog by throwing a life-ring. Or life-line just as you described. Kees put the link on one of the other blogs I just mentioned it in case you hadn't seen it. I agree with you!!! I love how you put it "A lifeline that somehow sustains both the giver and receiver." I agree!!! It is so true!!!

Kelly, isn't that one of the amazing things about it?

Cliff, Wow. That is so awesome! You've gotten me all choked-up now. Let's make that trip happen!

Brandon, you and Sarah have inspired your mom and I. We are going to sponsor a child through Compassion. Maybe we can all make that trip together.

I love the description of child sponsorship as a lifeline for both parties. It is indeed.

Robin, you're absolutely right, it is a persistent haunting. And a good thing. Writing this put me back in that place and reminded me just how much that meeting affected me. It was a very powerful experience. Meeting these children always is.

I wonder who was affected more--you or Ana? This is the kind of meeting that haunts, but not necessarily in a "bad" way...just in a persistent way.

The smiles are there, they're just looking for a way out; reading your story coaxed one from my own lips.

Beautifully written :).

Vicki, Thank you for reading it, and for taking the time to leave a comment.

Andy and Miranda, Thanks for that, I'll be sure to follow-up on this with a trip report! And I hope that you all have a chance to meet your Ana one day!

Teri (mom), Thanks mom. You can plan on hearing about it too! :)

I'm sure that you, Sarah and Ana will share smiles of hope and a bond for a lifetime. What a precious blessing! I look forward to reading about the reunion in two years.

Love,

Hi,
Thank you for sharing this! We have not yet met our child (also by the name of Ana), but she is such a blessing to us! May both your family and Ana's family be a blessing to one another, and when you visit the DR in two years, we'd love to hear about your trip!

Love,
