Michelle Tolentino

Earlier this week, you got a good glimpse into who Richmond Wandera is, which reminded us that we haven’t properly introduced you to Michelle Sheba Tolentino, another one of the Wess Stafford-Moody Bible Institute Scholarship recipients Celina told you about.

This video is about a year old, and if you haven’t seen it, it’s definitely worth your time.

The video is a little less than eight minutes long, and in it Michelle talks about the value and meaning of Compassion’s programs in her life.

Watch Michelle Tolentino and subscribe to Compassion YouTube for more stories.

We don’t have a video about Tony Beltran Morales, scholarship recipient number three, but we did profile him back in November 2008 – Leadership Development* in the Dominican Republic.

What a sweetheart! Who could ask for more from their child?? To think what she was saved from spiritually and physically, she is a totally different person than she would have been without loving help and sponsorship.
My heart and congratulations goes to her sponsor family. I can’t imagine how proud they are to see her fruitful life.
We’re supposed to give without expecting anything in return. Doing it in love and obedience is the prime reason. But, oh, to see a sweet Christian spirit in a young person living her life right; what a huge blessing.
God bless. Be thankful this Thanksgiving season..With Jesus as Lord & Master, we are victorious.

Born and raised in the Philippines, I know that Michelle has told a real story about life in the Philippines. Michelle was introduced to me by my daughter Ilene (she is a graduate of and works for Moody Bible Institute) and I knew then that she had a great life story to tell. Seeing and listening from her You Tube video, I just realized that she is an incredible person with an incredible, God-glorifying testimony to share. Thank you, Michelle!

    Hi, Rebecca,

I found out that it will be a future blog, so everyone will read it. 🙂

I love this testimony — I’ve shared it often — I’m so proud of you Michelle! My story is similar — I never felt like I could do anything “right.” I could never “measure up” to expectations. Understanding God’s unconditional love is such a wonderful freedom!

Michelle sent me the story from her sponsor’s prospective. She said that I could share it too. It is very powerful. I’d be happy to post it here.

Michelle inspires me to be a better sponsor.

    Dear Web-Team-

I have a video (not great quality) of Tony Beltran Morales, scholarship recipient number three, speaking during the Sponsor Tour in January 2008 to the DR. It was the same night I met the LDP student my coworkers and I sponsor.

If you would like me to get it to you, feel free to contact me.

    Michelle is amazing.

I did an extensive interview with her. During the interview we both cried.

Our Compassion experience is an all out WAR!!! That is why what Michelle said was so compelling to me b/c she helped me enter into that WAR which was her WAR. She helped me see what Carolyn said. I think next time I am at a Compassion table and someone walks by and says “Oh how nice, I should say “Are you ready to join the FIGHT yet???” That is the reality!!! Compassion seeks to overcome evil with good, there is no fiercer fight than that. I finally can understand in my mind how to encourage people to get involved regardless of who they are or their questions!!! If someone can say to me “Well thanks but I don’t want to join the fight” I will feel satisfied that I at least gave them the opportunity and presented it as it is at its core!!! Carolyn you helped me greatly understand what on earth I am doing!!! I do think it is important to answer people’s questions in a sharp manner but let’s get to the point!!! It is vitally important how Compassion is Christ-Centered, Child-Focused, Church based and Committed to integrity, but telling people the 4 C’s of Compassion does not answer the question many seem to have of what is this? And what is going on here? A war my friends and I will show you how we are winning!!! I also thought about doing it Matrix style saying you can either have a little faith and take the red pill and go back to living life as you have been thinking everything is ok and fine and that there’s nothing you can do to change anything or you can take the Compassion blue pill (i.e. sponsor a child) and I can show you just how deep the rabbit hole goes!!! That analogy I think is so true!!! Even in Nicaragua when we visited some of the projects the meal the kids got at this one project in particular was very small!!! And I was told that, that day was the meal day!!! I could have eaten 7 of those meals and still been hungry!!! Some of the other projects had a lot more food for the kids, but the reality of the situation was starting to sink in!!! A small snack called a meal is better than nothing, but I was a little surprised. I didn’t even want to play with the kids before they ate b/c they looked so hungry, so I didn’t!!!

Dave ours is in Breckenridge, CO April 17-19. Fly to the NE conference Britt!!! My advocate leader mentioned to me that Wes was going to speak at a church so I wanted to hear him talk b/c I had never heard him speak and then later she mentioned Michelle was going ot be there as well!!! So it was great to say the least and I was even able to get my picture with Wes and all three of the LDP students!!! I skipped work to attend if I remember correctly. (but I don’t think Wal-mart missed me that much 😉 I thought it was such a treat to be able to interact with all of them!!! Wes used his old sling-shot to hurl what I thought was a baseball sized rock so I was ducking b/c I was fairly close up front. But it turned out to be a nerf type ball!!! It was definitely a wake-up call the first time I heard Michelle speak. I greatly appreciated the change of pace. It was kind of like a shot of adrenaline is the best way I would describe it.

  15. Britt March 26, 2009

Michelle is such a powerful speaker! I could not hold back the tears. I’d love to hear her speak in person!

  16. Compassiondave March 26, 2009

Hey, Michelle is coimg to our NE Conference on April 3-5

  17. Jill Foley March 26, 2009

I’ve seen this before, but it was worth watching again!!! I agree with Amy who said that Compassion children are the ones who will really make the difference and change this world.

  18. Mike Stephens March 26, 2009

It was great to get to hear her in person…twice!!!

  19. Vicki Small March 26, 2009

I believe Wess told us, last October in the Dominican Republic, that Michelle is now sponsoring *two* children. She sacrifices one meal a day in order to do that.

  20. Chuck Guth March 26, 2009

What an inspiration! I feel so blessed to be able to do this work for the Kingdom. I am looking forward to meeting Michelle and hearing more next weekend! 🙂

  21. Amy March 26, 2009

When she said she now sponsors a child, I almost started crying! Compassion children are the ones who are going change this world!

    1. [email protected] September 29, 2010

Michelle introduced the child she sponsored in the later part of the video. While she is talking I read this comment and my tears are falling. I was blessed how God works in this ministry. How He change the hopeless life of a child. God bless us all!!!!!!!!!! To God be the glory
