Becky,

What a difficult job you have in being the bearer of bad news. I appreciate all of the updates that Compassion gives to us. My little friend lives in Haiti and while the riots were going on, I wrote to Compassion and was relieved to find out that the children were okay. Thank you for being a strong link in the Compassion organization!

"The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you" (Ps. 9:8, 10).

Your last paragraph says it exactly right: God is not surprised by the crises that occur; we, however, can easily feel overwhelmed. And as you said, our hope is in the Lord, and He who made the heavens and the earth is never--I repeat, never--overwhelmed.

God bless you, Becky.

Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have* peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. Romans 5:1-5

You may have heard it said, "God doesn't give us anything we can't handle," but that is a misnomer. The truth be told is, "God doesn't give us anything HE can't handle."

I admire you for being in such a position. To be bombarded on a daily basis with a seemingly endless stream of bad news takes a heart and soul with courage and strength thatI don't know if I possess. It is a high calling, indeed. A calling, in my opinion, that necessitates a desperation and complete reliance on the Lord's provision for insight, discernment, and wisdom.

Desperation is not always a pleasent place to be. But I'm finding that, more often than not, that's exactl where God wants; on our knees. It lends us to proper perspective. I heard a pastor say recently that "desperation is the birth pains of new life."

New Life. A life restored, healed, freed, and ultimately made whole. These things then help you and I to praise, love, and honor the Lord more completely, for He has delivered us from the storm and set us on the rock of His salvation.
