Satisfy the Lord

The question everywhere is, “Are you satisfied?” Satisfied with your paycheck, your team, your organization, your privileges? The question that yet remains unasked or unanswered is this: “Am I satisfying? And whom am I satisfying?”
Our duty to the ministry of Compassion requires giving nothing less but every ounce of our strength, coupled with a burning desire to satisfy the One who gave it to us! It is not doing our duty alone but satisfying the Lord that truly brings contentment to His heart.
The parable in Luke says that when a servant is back from the field, the master will not say, “Come along now and sit down to eat.” Instead, he says, “Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink.” This is what it means to satisfy the Lord.
Each day after we do our duty and prepare to rest, we need to ask ourselves, “Have I satisfied the Lord today?” Doing our duty for the day alone does not suffice; we have to spend time satisfying the Lord by ministering to Him through worship and prayer until our heart is content, after which we can begin to rest.
By doing this, we are not demonstrating some higher spiritual standard. As Luke 17:10 says, “We have only done our duty.” Duty doesn’t just mean sweating it out completely for the day. Our duty is only complete after the Lord is satisfied.
“So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.’” — Luke 17:10, NIV
Prayer: Lord! Help us live our lives for you alone!
