I sponsor a child in poverty because....
The Lord had been dealing with me about the area of adoption. He needed to teach me some things, and soften my heart to others. He laid it on my heart to start by "financially adopting" a child.

After checking around various sponsorship programs, I felt Compassion was the organization I was to get involved with. I'm so thankful for this organization!

I just received my first letter from my sponsor "child" (she's actually a teenager, a young lady). What a blessing it is to be a part of this ministry!

Last year God brought some speaking opportunities my way. In each of these cases, I did not ask for a speaker's fee--I just accepted whatever the church offered me. In November I received a generous honorarium, but I kept feeling like God was saying to me, "Sponsor a child. You don't need the money. Don't keep it for yourself. Give it away." And so I did. I have read about each of the blogger's trips (which I would LOVE to do someday), and my heart has been touched each time. It was finally time to do something about it.

As I was deciding who to sponsor, my 12-year-old daughter came to me and asked, "Mom, what country were you thinking of?" I said I didn't know which country, but I was definitely thinking Africa. My daughter got a slight smile on her face and said, "Were you thinking boy or girl?" I said I thought girl (we have three daughters, so I obviously have a heart for girls). She grinned again. She said, "How about a girl from Ethiopia? In honor of C?" (C is my daughter's friend down the street who was adopted from Ethiopia, along with her brother.) I told her I thought that was a fantastic idea, so we have adopted a girl from Ethiopia in honor of my daughter's friend, C. It brings us so much joy to be able to do this.

Thank you for all you are doing.

Out of the abundance of what God has provided for us we want to bless others. It is such a privilege to be able to make a difference in the life of a child. We see it in the photos we have from her that we are making a difference to her. She looks happier. Because we sponsor with Compassion we know that we also make a difference to her community.

After many years of thinking about sponsoring a child, it was time to put those thoughts into action. My sponsorship is given as gratitude for the many blessings of my life including my children and grandchildren. We are all called to reach out to those in need. My grandsons are close in age to Felix, and I intend to make my sponsorship a family affair by having them participate with me.

I sponsor a child in poverty with Compassion International because God put Melany in our hands and we could not give her back. We have had her in our family for 4 years now. After I had miscarried 3 years ago God put Rezu and Daniel into our lives while on a cruise with Michael W. Smith. The heartache of the loss was quelched once these two where added to our family. These children are like my own and to get their letters are so precious to us. Our family was in tears as we opened a letter from Melany to tell us that the $300 that we gifted her family went to buy a refridgerator so her mom could store more foods for her business. Can you imagine how that little amount to us meant that she could increase her business to earn more for her family. We now live life more clearly with the knowledge of what helping others can do.

I sponsor a child in poverty because - We are commanded to take care of the least of these by Jesus.

I sponsor a child through Compassion because they have a Christ-centered approach to rescuing children that are in the grips of poverty. They love and present Jesus to the children. They love and serve them even if the child never accepts Jesus.
