I sponsor a child in poverty because . . .
I sponsor a child in poverty with Compassion International because . . .
I sponsor children in poverty with Compassion International because it was the Lord’s plan. I had no intention of sponsoring. Doubt filled me when seeing various commercials on tv with images of starving children from around the world. Sometimes I couldn’t take looking at the images. Then I’d question whether or not the children received the money due to greedy corporate hands and would start channel surfing. God had a different plan. One Sunday I attended the Howard University Chapel Services and Tony Campolo just happened to be hosting Compassion Sunday. He boldly stated that Christians need to get out of themselves and become involved in the community-locally or internationally. My ears, my mind, and my heart were opened and received what he said. Then I walked to a Compassion Booth and signed up to sponsor my first child, Jeferson from Colombia. Now I can’t imagine not sponsoring. In fact, I wish that I could sponsor more children.
God asked me to.
God laid it on my heart when I was in college and heard Bart Campolo speak about Compassion. At the time I could only afford to sponsor one child, but wanted to do more so I became an advocate. Since becoming a sponosr, I have seen that God mandates us to to…
Matt. 18:10 “do not look down on these little ones…”
Proverbs 31:8-9 “speak up for those who cannont speak up for themselves…”
Mark 9:37 “whoever welcomes these little childre…”
I could go on all day….
I sponsor a child in poverty with Compassion International because over 10 years ago my husband and I went through financial hardships and I am finally to the place I can turn around and give back. I sponsor through Compassion International because they are an organization that I can trust to provide for my sponsor child.
God placed it on my heart and directed me to this particular company
I sponsor a child in poverty – – – because I am so blessed daily with so much from Heavenly Father and to serve Him, I share what He has given me. And more than things, He gives me eternal life and hope, and so I share that hope with our sponsored child by my words and my actions.
I sponsor children in poverty because I am blessed and I want to give back.
I sponsor a child in poverty because…I feel every child deserves the opportunity to hear how much God loves them and to have God’s love demonstrated through another person. I cannot fix all the problems in the world but I can help one or two of God’s precious little ones to have the opportunities to succeed.
Also because I have been so richly blessed by God and I want to follow his commands to take care of the poor and needy and to look after children and orphans.
I sponsor a child in poverty through Compassion International because… of their record of financial integrity and faithful service to the children for the past 50+ years.
I know that when I sponsor a child through Compassion my money goes where they say it will and that time and prayer has gone into how best to impact the children for eternity.
I sponsor a child in poverty because God told me it was time to take action, rather than continue to think about it–the commercials on TV kept reminding me.
I sponsor with Compassion because I trust this organization’s financial integrity (among other qualities).
I sponsor a child in poverty because I promised Our Blessed Saviour that I would! A long time ago I promised Him that I would sponsor at least one child and now I sponsor several(including one with WV).I also sponsor because I deeply care about the extreme poor who really don’t have anything else to fall back on,especially in Africa. How can I say that I love God and my fellow man but sit back and do nothing??
I sponsor a child with Compassion International because I think that they are probably the best child sponsorship organization out there. Plus I always get replies to my letters from the girls I sponsor! It’s so exciting!!
Oh oh…didn’t post…grr..Growling at WordPress!!!
I sponsor a child in poverty because…it works! I have sponsored children for the last 26 years and have seen my sponsored children change from shy, unconfident children without hope in their eyes to happy, self-sufficient, educated men and women.
I sponsor with Compassion International because I have heard only good about the organisation. I started with one Compassion child, I now have 3.
We started sponsoring children through Compassion many years ago when our children were very tiny. Our hearts were touched by the things Jesus had to say about children and about helping those in need, and we were very aware of how agonizing it would be for a parent to be unable to provide basic necessities for her child. We continue to be sponsors, partly in obedience to Jesus, but also now because it is one of the greatest joys in our lives.
I sponsor a child in poverty with Compassion International because…
God laid it on my heart and I want to teach my daughters how to care for others.
i sponsor because i have relatives from my sponsor child’s country……..and i know the difficulties of life there….when you actually see the life of a people in person it really makes me know how blessed i am to live in u.s.a….i hope that poverty can be tackled with dignity and love……..
I sponsor children in poverty because God had laid it on my heart to do so. I also sponsor children in poverty because I care deeply about children and want them to know about God love for them.
I sponsor through compassion because through this organization you know where the money is going and you also are able to develop a personal relationship with the children you sponsor through letters. And I love recieving their letters.
I sponsor through Compassion because I also feel this is what God wants me to do. I am also EXTREMELY impressed with their financial integrety and with the way they focus so much on the relationship aspect of sponsorship. The are so well documented as far as child/sponsor correspondence and I really appreciate their focus on relationship building with your child.
God laid child sponsorship on my heart long, long ago, when I was in my early 20’s and couldn’t afford even $9/month. It was about 35 years before I realized I could afford to sponsor, but I didn’t know which organization would be most trustworthy and effective.
The first time I passed a Compassion table, I stopped to look. I kept saying half to myself, “I can do this!” Then that still, small voice inside said, “You *can* do this. This is it!”
Never in 6 years have I had reason to doubt Compassion’s integrity or effectiveness. I have seen it at work in the field and in the children I sponsor. I love that Compassion is Christ-centered, child-focused and church-based. It’s a winning formula!
My wife and I sponsor children in poverty because we want to hold loosely the financial resources God has given to us and use them for eternal purposes.
A recent joy was hearing from our 16 year-old female that she had chosen to be baptized as a public confession of her faith in Christ. Eternal value to which earthly treasures will never compare.
Because I felt that God called me to do so. I am fortunate enough to be able to sponsor two children through Compassion. Though I just became a sponsor two months ago, my family has been greatly blessed by it.
Ever since I was a little girl I have had a deep compassion for people… always wanting to help those who could not help themselves. (Unfortunately, except for an occasional act of “personal kindness” over the years, those dreams of compassion have remained just that… only a dream.)For as long as I could remember, I have had a desire to be a missionary in Africa, but again, that desire remains only a dream. So… what real difference have I ever made?
For me, sponsoring a child through Compassion is one way to help make those dreams become a reality, not only for myself, but also for a child.
I sponsor two little girls from Uganda, because I have seen first hand how Compassion has assisted in raising children to be solid, confident, Christian adults. Everywhere I went in Uganda, they would comment on how much Compassion has made a difference in their country..I am honored and humbled to be a part of making a difference in a child’s life….
I feel that I have been blessed with so much, and I wanted to be able to help a child have more hope for their own future. I sponsor a 4 year old girl in Rwanda and hearing about her going to school, learning about Jesus and his love for her, and all the other wonderful things she is doing, just makes my heart swell with love for her.
Because God told me to. He put a burden so strongly in my heart. I had seen the tv ads all of my life and was sad…but this burden left me sobbing. I am the proud sponsor of 2 beautiful children now and more to come…I believe that this will be my calling…children in need. Thank you compassion for helping me to do the work of the Lord!!
I sponsor for a couple of reasons.
Even though I am American and very, very blessed now – I missed MANY meals when I was a child because my parents were addicts and would rather spend their money on drugs and booze. To this day I can’t stand the thought of a child going hungry.
I sponsor because I want my girl in India to know that someone DOES love her and care for her.
I sponsor because Jesus said whatever we do for the little ones we do for HIM!!
….God was calling me to do it! Am I so thankful that I chose to sponsor Kyakunzire Pamela! Watching her grow up has been a priveledge!
I totally agree with Dyan Johnson!
Ever since I was a little 6 year old. I would lay awake in my bed at night thinking about how someday I wanted to sponsor children and go to Africa one day. It has been a desire I believe God has put on my heart.
I sponsor from Compassion because they have Christ involved.
I’ve wanted to sponsor a child for years. While flipping through tv channels I kept seeing programs devoted to helping children in other countries. (you know, those real sad tear-jerker programs?)
My heart wanted to help, but I was always dubious about whether the money would go to the children or not. Then one day I saw another tear-jerker program and got the idea to research companies online. That research brought me to Compassion International.
I sponsor through Compassion International because not only are they honest and you can tell just exactly where your money is going… but because I was delighted to learn that I could have a relationship with the child I sponsored.
The website made all the difference in my case… All the information I needed was there. I just had to follow the path to get to the website…. :o)
I sponsor a child because it is the most direct way to help someone in need
I sponsor a child in poverty because God compels me, not to keep my wealth, but to give it away freely. He has come to bring good news to the poor!
I sponsor a child in poverty because – We are commanded to take care of the least of these by Jesus.
I sponsor a child through Compassion because they have a Christ-centered approach to rescuing children that are in the grips of poverty. They love and present Jesus to the children. They love and serve them even if the child never accepts Jesus.
I sponsor a child in poverty with Compassion International because God put Melany in our hands and we could not give her back. We have had her in our family for 4 years now. After I had miscarried 3 years ago God put Rezu and Daniel into our lives while on a cruise with Michael W. Smith. The heartache of the loss was quelched once these two where added to our family. These children are like my own and to get their letters are so precious to us. Our family was in tears as we opened a letter from Melany to tell us that the $300 that we gifted her family went to buy a refridgerator so her mom could store more foods for her business. Can you imagine how that little amount to us meant that she could increase her business to earn more for her family. We now live life more clearly with the knowledge of what helping others can do.
because it’s what Jesus has asked me to do..care for the least of these.
Thank you Compassion for all you do!
After many years of thinking about sponsoring a child, it was time to put those thoughts into action. My sponsorship is given as gratitude for the many blessings of my life including my children and grandchildren. We are all called to reach out to those in need. My grandsons are close in age to Felix, and I intend to make my sponsorship a family affair by having them participate with me.
Out of the abundance of what God has provided for us we want to bless others. It is such a privilege to be able to make a difference in the life of a child. We see it in the photos we have from her that we are making a difference to her. She looks happier. Because we sponsor with Compassion we know that we also make a difference to her community.
I sponsor a child because Jesus is my sponsor.
Last year God brought some speaking opportunities my way. In each of these cases, I did not ask for a speaker’s fee–I just accepted whatever the church offered me. In November I received a generous honorarium, but I kept feeling like God was saying to me, “Sponsor a child. You don’t need the money. Don’t keep it for yourself. Give it away.” And so I did. I have read about each of the blogger’s trips (which I would LOVE to do someday), and my heart has been touched each time. It was finally time to do something about it.
As I was deciding who to sponsor, my 12-year-old daughter came to me and asked, “Mom, what country were you thinking of?” I said I didn’t know which country, but I was definitely thinking Africa. My daughter got a slight smile on her face and said, “Were you thinking boy or girl?” I said I thought girl (we have three daughters, so I obviously have a heart for girls). She grinned again. She said, “How about a girl from Ethiopia? In honor of C?” (C is my daughter’s friend down the street who was adopted from Ethiopia, along with her brother.) I told her I thought that was a fantastic idea, so we have adopted a girl from Ethiopia in honor of my daughter’s friend, C. It brings us so much joy to be able to do this.
Thank you for all you are doing.
…because i believe we can change the world one child at a time by showing them there is something bigger than their problems…. The love of Christ.
I sponsor a child in poverty because more than enough of my life as been about me me me. And it isn’t about me. It’s about HIM.
I sponsor a child in poverty because….
The Lord had been dealing with me about the area of adoption. He needed to teach me some things, and soften my heart to others. He laid it on my heart to start by “financially adopting” a child.
After checking around various sponsorship programs, I felt Compassion was the organization I was to get involved with. I’m so thankful for this organization!
I just received my first letter from my sponsor “child” (she’s actually a teenager, a young lady). What a blessing it is to be a part of this ministry!
I sponsor a child because it’s just the right thing to do….I just so happened to be browsing on the site (maybe I was “pushed” toward the site, I don’t know) and I came across the children who had been waiting the longest. I saw the little girl from Rwanda who had been waiting about 10 months, and I knew that I couldn’t have her wait any longer! I consider her to be my angel. She’s just beautiful.
