Spring Is in the Air

spring is in the air Do you ever think about what the different seasons are like for your sponsored child? I wonder how cold it gets for my child, Felix, living in Mexico City. How similar or different are the seasons where he lives, compared with where I live in central Californina? And what about Lina in Colombia? While I’m experiencing spring, it’s autumn where she lives.

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” – Ecclesiastes 3:1, NIV

When you write to your sponsored child this month, here are some suggestions for questions you can ask.

  • Tell me about the flowers where you live.
  • What’s your favorite season? What do you like most about it?
  • What do you like about spring? My friend Jill has a great blog post with questions to ask about spring.

If you have older sponsored children, this might be a great time to share with them a science lesson about how the earth rotates on its axis to give us the different seasons.

How about sending your sponsored child some sheets of origami paper with this picture tutorial?

    Hello Yvonne,
I’m a new sponsor and am gathering ideas for my 1st letter to my little 9 yr old girl in Haiti. I have a question about sending Origami. How will she know how it works? Also, if I find beautiful springtime Pins from Pinterest to enclose in my online letter, how does that work? Will she receive a good quality image or is it better for me to send her photos? Thank you very much for your reply.
    For His Glory, Susan Burger

      Hello Susan,
Congratulations on being a new sponsor! Your little girl in Haiti will love receiving letters from you! Picture tutorials are great to send in the regular mail with some origami paper for the kids to try at the centers. And most of the items you find on Pinterest are going to be better for sending in the regular mail. The online letters are beautiful and the images you upload to them will be a treasure for your sponsored child!

        Hi Yvonne,
Thank you very much for your answers which are very helpful. You mentioned that Pinterest images are best sent by regular mail. Can you tell me how to do that? I assume I need to have a color printer which I don’t have access to. Thank you very much.
        ALL for His Glory,

          Hello Susan,
The Pinterest ideas are suggestions for sponsors to send, please do not feel that you need to send these items. The best thing you can send to your sponsored child is frequent letters and photographs of you and your family. If you want to send some of the things from Pinterest, maybe print out the coloring pages since you do not have a color printer. Or maybe see if a friend or your church can print out some of the color items.

            Dear Yvonne,
Thank you very much for your answer and for your encouragement. I understand now how that works. I’ll look for other ways to send her beautiful images (i.e. I can keep my eye out for calenders in the dollar store or elsewhere where I can cut out beautiful nature photos and send them to my little girl. Also, I will send her lots of coloring pages. I have found some beautiful ones online. Thank you once again.
            ALL for His Glory,
            Susan Burger

Does anyone have ideas for simple things to send a child who likes to draw?

    1. Linda March 13, 2014

I made my young man a small journal once by stapling a few sheets of different kinds of paper together. Keep it under 1/4 of an inch and you should be OK.

      1. Beth March 14, 2014

        Great idea! Thanks.
