The Gift of Grace

gift of grace I remember during my childhood years, I would sit still during my mom’s work meetings, thinking that if I was a good girl she would love me more.

This desire was linked to the fact that I thought the more she loved me, the more toys she would buy me.

I grew up and unconsciously copied my childhood behavior in my relationship with the Lord. I focused on doing works to somehow earn His love and grace. It was not until my college years that I realized this.

I was working for my salvation, when I actually could never even pay for 1/100 of it.

In Ephesians 2, we are reminded that we were dead in sin. As we all know, dead people can’t do much, so no matter what we could have never worked our way out of sin.

God, in His mercy and grace, grants us salvation through His Son’s sacrifice, and the one and only thing we have to do is believe. Verse 9 says, “Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done.”

Salvation is a gift.

It was given to us for free, and through it we become God’s masterpiece. A masterpiece begins with a blank canvas, but just like Leonardo da Vinci did with the “Mona Lisa,” the creator transforms it into a one-of-a-kind piece of art.

Once we become a masterpiece, verse 10 says we become “anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”

God is working in our lives to show others about His grace and love. Every time we do good, we are sharing about God’s free gift of salvation.

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. — Ephesians 2:10, NLT

Prayer: Lord, remind us that the purpose of our work is to share your free gift of love and grace with others. Help us do all the good things that you planned for us with the only desire of bringing you glory. Father, thank you for making us your masterpieces. Amen.
