Walk the Walk

It would be wonderful if we all had enough courage to say what Paul said throughout 1 Corinthians: “Follow me as I follow Christ. Let me be a pattern and an example of how you should live.”

Not only do we need to influence unbelievers, but there are many believers who need to be influenced by one who is actually living a dedicated life.

Children have a tendency to say what they hear, do what they see, and follow in the footsteps of those around them. The same is true with baby Christians. Many need someone to show them how to live and behave, not just tell them. They need to be shown how to truly walk the walk.

Whether you know it or not, you’re being watched by someone else. Remember that people are not influenced by what you say, but by the way you live, whether you are doing the ministry of Compassion or anywhere.

After all, Jesus is interested in doers of the Word, not merely listeners or speakers. And what people need to see more than anything is truth and consistency.

I’m so inspired by one of the twelve Compassion leadership principles that says, “demonstrate godly character” (Colossians 3:12b).

The act of doing what the Word says is essential for us. Children to whom we minister and partners with whom we work need to see and experience God’s love in our everyday actions.

Obviously we make mistakes, and when we do we can thank God for His forgiveness. But we also have to realize that many times we may be the only evidence of God some people see. If need to be more united in one Spirit, then let’s walk the walk, living and doing what the Word of God says.

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. —James 1:22, NIV

Prayer: Dear God, please help us to walk the walk, to do what your Word says. Encourage us to demonstrate godly character to the needy children, our families, and our co-workers.
