Recently, when in Colo springs, my wife and I were honored to visit briefly with Dr. Stafford.
When in his office, we had the same feeling of awe that he had at the White House.
We felt as if we were in the presense of greatness....and we were.
He made us feel very comfortable and I was truely touched by his humbleness, sincerity and genuine heart.

Thanks so much for sharing this great story! I was also thrilled to learn George, Sr., sponsored a child! I'm not surprised, actually. I'm so glad you got to represent Compassion (for all of us) in this way!

Read this first thing this morning and loved it. I doubt any of us knew that the first President Bush sponsored a child through Compassion (except maybe whoever told him about CI!). I love the way he chose his words!

I'm so proud of Wess and the recognition he is getting--and the attention being drawn to Compassion, as a result. I can't imagine that anyone could meet him and listen to him for three minutes, and not hear his heart!

Wess (if you are reading), you are an encouragement to me. The idea that after an evening spent with the President of the United States and other heads of state, you would might notice a homeless man and then take the time to pray with him moves me spiritually. And while it is true I am a follower of Christ Jesus, in one sense I am a follower of you as well, as your Christian walk positions you miles ahead of me on that narrow path of Christian faith.

I almost didn't come over to read this blog post because I avoid anything remotely political. My head starts spinning and I get a headache just thinking about politics. BUT I sure am glad that I did! What a great post-such a nice read especially after all the lies and bad mouthin' going on right now.

It is sadly true how much negative news, which sells, dominates the media. Now that I know more about Africa, I'm amazed at how little I ever heard about it before now. The truth is, the world still looks down on Africa and undervalues it or just sees it as a disaster zone. A lot of people would read about the state dinner and think "Ghana? Who cares about Ghana? Why is the president wasting his time this late in his presidency having dinners with them?" I just hope that whoever becomes president next will continue to support President Bush's powerful focus on Africa. It's another unpopular war that costs a lot of money and seems very difficult, almost impossible, to win. It would be so easy for interest in Africa to flag, given the far-off nature of the battlefield and the slow progress and our own financial pressures at home. It's hard to have ongoing hope in the face of such a struggle. It's so encouraging that Wess got to visit the White House. I hope he gets to go again sometime when the next administration is in. Just being around people like him is a wake up call and can inspire people to greater compassion. Fingers crossed!
