Need help deciding where to sponsor a child?

Are you curious to see if you’re sponsoring a child in the “right” place?

Do you prefer tamales and red sauce or curry and rice?

Is your cruise of choice, boating on Lake Victoria or sailing down the Amazon River?

Are you more concerned about children experiencing drought or hurricanes and flooding?

How about children who fall victim to child trafficking or gang and drug-related violence?

Lisa Miles, wife and mother of one, sponsor of two kids in Ethiopia and occasional guest contributor to this blog, created a “Where Should I Sponsor a Child?” test.

Take it and all your dreams will come true.

What a fun test! It suggested I sponsor a child from South America, so I guess my next sponsored child will be from that continent!

    Great job, Lisa!!

It seems that I’m in just the right area for Heidi :-)

Hmm, I have kids in South America and Africa, but this test thinks I should sponsor from Asia!

I took the test and it suggested that I sponsor children from South America. There must be some truth to it because I have been sponsoring children from Brazil the past 2 years.

Wow, when Compassion talks, people listen! The number of people who took the quiz went up by 1600% this evening. 8)

I hope everyone enjoys it. And I’m glad that child sponsorship now has a presence in the online quiz world!

I took my own quiz, by the way, and I came up with Asia — which is a coincidence, because my husband and I have been looking at Bangladesh as the next place we want to sponsor. :)

    Carren,

I tried to take the test and it got back and started asking me a bunch of other questions like my email address, so I didn’t find out the answer. Some of the questions, I didn’t know what the answer meant.

If you sponsored a child in the wrong country, I wouldn’t worry about it too much. It seems like just a fun test. I know I picked all of my children in Bolivia and I wouldn’t change it.

I did have a strategy with sponsoring them all in one country. It was based on trying to get the biggest effect without repeating myself. So, I picked the children in one country for several reasons.

I wanted to be able to learn the culture and the country better, thereby maybe being a better sponsor to the children. I’ve been reading books and watching videos on the country and the culture. Now, when I look at the children’s childpackets, I can pretty much tell where they from without reading the description. I can only do that with Bolivia. Also, I can tell new sponsors more about the child they are about to sponsor. Like this week, I found a sponsor for a little boy, that I saw on the Internet. I met the little boy a couple of months ago and I was able to tell the new sponsor a lot more about the child.

Also, I picked one country, because I could visit all the children in one visit, which I ended up doing.

One thing to maybe consider is that if you’re planning on visiting several times and money is an issue that you might take a country close by like Mexico or Haiti or the Dominican Republic.

I guess the only downside of sponsoring in one country is that if something were to happen to that country and Compassion couldn’t be part of it any more, you would lose all the sponsorship children. (I would be devastated) BTW, if that were to happen than you can be assured because Compassion works with the local church that the work in the children will continue.

    Blessings,

    Kees

My result was South America…but overall my answers were all over the board! I guess that’s why I choose to have the children I sponsor all over. (Kenya, Ghana, Nicaragua, Philippines, Indonesia, India, Ethiopia) I really like learning about all their different countries…I feel more globally aware. But visiting them all will be hard!
Fun test, though! Thanks for sharing….

Hmmm. It told me I should sponsor a child from Asia. I think it is fairly accurate seems how God has given me a heart for Asia and my 3 sponsored children are from Asia.

    Great test, it was fun!

Love the test — I want to put it on my own blog now. It zeroed in on the exact place where my special young lady is (now in the Leadership Develpment Program) — and I didn’t expect that with the diverse answers I was giving. I think I need to sponsor 10 more kids…

  11. Kees BoerNo Gravatar Says:

    Wow, Juli,

That will be very exciting!!! I’m looking forward to hearing about the new children that you sponsor.

The test said Africa – which is where our very first child lives.

The biggest test is listening to God as to which child has been praying for YOU, that YOU become their sponsor.

  13. Juli JarvisNo Gravatar Says:

I can’t sponsor 10 more kids yet — just wish I could. Perhaps I can sometime in the future.

Has anyone visited any of the Kenya projects? Does anyone have any pictures? I started sponsoring a girl from Kenya. I hear a lot about and see a lot of pictures from various places but very little from Kenya.

    Hi, Maria,

I don’t know if you’ve seen this video, but it shows quite a bit about a huge slum in Kenya.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_12H7ISnLo

I heard this week that in the midst of this slum, there is one of the Compassion children with a sign in their home that says: “Thank you for all that we have.”

Thanks Kees! Those are some neat videos of the children in Kenya. It is awesome to see the effects of a long-term sponsorship.
