Where Does Poverty Live?

This week I sat in God’s house. I fed Him. I hugged Him. I played a new game with Him. I even danced with Him.

I was able to do all of this because He invited me to.

This week I’ve been in the Philippines with the Compassion Bloggers. As we travel home, I want to leave you with this:

As a sponsor, God can use you powerfully, and He IS using you powerfully, to remove poverty from the mind and heart of a child.

These children:

Who live here:

Know poverty.

They know what it looks like. They know its lies. They know its smells. They know what it feels like on their skin.

But though poverty surrounds them, this week I met children who, although it has tried to saturate their life, poverty does not live inside them.

It’s like saying you can be fully submerged in water and still be dry. You are in the water but you are not affected by the wetness of water. Strange, I know. But this is what I witnessed this week.

Before I came on the trip I decided to be focused on the one instead of being distracted by all that poverty is and instead of becoming overwhelmed by all that I might walk into, I wanted to be concerned with the one girl, the one boy, the one child that God would ask me to see and to love on.

What I found while I was here were communities of children living in poverty but not allowing poverty to live inside them.

I think it’s because they are also focusing on the One.

In what ways do you feel like you are letting God use you to show them that poverty does not define them?

How can you let God use you to take the focus of your sponsored child from all that poverty is to all that God is?
