Because of God’s love for us, he sent his son, Jesus, as a sacrifice for our sins. And now we get to love him and be with him. News like this is worth sharing! Here, you’ll find Bible verses about spreading the gospel and examples of what sharing the good news looks like.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. — John 3:16, NIV

All Bible verses about sharing the gospel are written in NIV, unless otherwise noted.

12 Bible Verses About Spreading the Gospel

1. Mark 16:15

He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”

After Jesus rose from the dead, he gave his disciples this commission: to go and preach the gospel to everyone. As Christians, we’re his disciples too. So this commission is also for us.

2. 1 Peter 3:15

But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.

When you follow Jesus and let him change your heart, you’ll look and act differently. You’ll have joy in the midst of difficult circumstances. You’ll have hope during chaos. When people ask how you can have joy and hope when things are bleak, it’s an opportunity to share Jesus with them.

3. Ephesians 2:10

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Sometimes, you may feel inadequate to share the gospel with others. But God created you to respond to the good news of the gospel by sharing its message and helping those in need. In fact, he’s already planned opportunities for you to reach others for Jesus!

4. 1 Corinthians 1:17

For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel — not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

You may not have the prettiest of words when it comes to sharing the gospel. And that’s okay! The simple gospel is powerful enough to change lives on its own (more on this below).

5. Ephesians 4:11-12

So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.

All of us have a job to do in the body of Christ. Some of us may be teachers and preachers, while others may hear from God with wisdom and clarity. Some will have the special ability to care for others, equipping the body of Christ with help and hope.

No job is more important than another. And while some may be especially gifted at evangelism, all of us are charged with sharing the gospel.

6. Matthew 28:19-20

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

Jesus gave us this commission as his disciples. He also tells us in this passage that we aren’t alone in our journey with him. He’s always with us, even to the very end. When we share the gospel, we can do so with boldness, trusting that he’s right by our side.

7. Romans 1:16

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.

The gospel takes all of us from death to life again. It frees us of our sins and allows us to have a relationship with the God of the universe. Is that anything to be ashamed of? Absolutely not! We should want everyone to experience the freedom that comes from accepting Jesus.

8. Matthew 10:7-8

“As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.”

When we choose to follow Jesus, he gives us his Holy Spirit. And through the Holy Spirit, Jesus gives us power to do great things. In fact, allowing the Holy Spirit to work in our lives is proof of our belief in Jesus (Mark 16:17).

9. 2 Timothy 4:2

Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage — with great patience and careful instruction.

This Scripture, written by Paul, instructs us to be prepared to always share the gospel with others, no matter where we are. And when we do share the gospel, we should do so with patience and simplicity.

10. Romans 10:14-15

How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

How will our friends and family get to know Jesus? How will those living in nations around the world hear the good news? Sharing the gospel is up to all of us!

11. Psalm 96:3

Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.

God wants all people, regardless of where they’re from, to hear the good news. That’s why he has tasked us with declaring who he is to everyone, from those who live with us to the children and families living around the world.

12. Matthew 9:37-38

Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

In this verse, Jesus tells his disciples that there are many souls in need of him. But there are very few people willing to make him known. Let this verse inspire you to take action on behalf of those who need Jesus.

What Does Sharing the Gospel With Others Look Like?

Sharing the gospel can seem intimidating. But know this: You don’t have to be a pastor or evangelist to share the gospel. You don’t have to be a good speaker or have all the right words to say. Sharing the gospel with others can be simple.

For example, it can look like:

  • Talking about Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross: The simple gospel is this: Even though we’ve sinned against God, Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross washes us clean. And by believing in him, we can have eternal life and enjoy a deep relationship with Jesus. This simple explanation can help you start the conversation with your family and friends. And leading them to Jesus is easy too (here’s a step-by-step guide).
  • Sharing what God has done for you: Revelation 12:11 tells us that we can conquer the enemy by the blood of the Lamb (Jesus) and the word of our testimony. Your story is powerful! Those you share your story with might be able to relate to your struggles and pain. Your testimony is proof that if Jesus did it for you, he can do it for them too.
  • Stepping up for someone in need of help: Jesus often fulfilled an individual’s physical needs and their spiritual needs. For example, Jesus didn’t just teach the 5,000 and introduce them to his ways. He also fed them. Many people who need Jesus can’t see beyond their urgent physical needs. But if we meet those needs, they’ll see Jesus. There are so many ways to meet these needs, from donating to charity to sponsoring a child living in poverty.

The Gospel Changes Everything

Sharing the gospel changes lives. At Compassion, we know this to be true, as we’ve seen the gospel impact countless lives.

For example, Alice, from Kenya, didn’t have a home and watched her younger brother die because of exposure to the wet night air. And Alice’s future dreams were threatened by her community’s expectation of teen marriage.

Poverty shattered Alice’s life, taking her health, her confidence and her voice. But in John 10:10, Jesus says we can have fullness of life through him. And that’s exactly what he had in store for Alice.

Through the Compassion center and the support of her loving sponsors, Alice received a safe home and an education to help her reach her dreams. But most importantly, she found Jesus by hearing the gospel. Now knowing who she is in him, she’s using her voice to advocate for others living in poverty.

Through Jesus, Alice is no longer shattered but whole. And that’s the life-changing impact of the gospel.

Let these Bible verses about spreading the gospel and Alice’s story inspire you to share the good news far and wide. There’s no telling whose life you might change by saying yes to introducing those in need to Jesus.
