Guess what? Because of Jesus’ death and resurrection, we can be forgiven of our sins, have a right-now relationship with him and live eternally. Now that’s good news worth sharing! Wondering how to share the gospel with those around you? That’s exactly what you’ll learn in this guide.

What’s Here:

What the Bible Says About Sharing the Good News

In Mark, after Jesus’ resurrection, he appeared to his disciples while they ate. Jesus had one more important message to deliver before going to heaven and sitting at the right hand of his Father.

“He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.” — Mark 16:15-16, NIV

Jesus was clear: They were to share the good news of the gospel with everyone they met. And their obedience to this command? It was life or death for those around them.

This commission to the disciples is our commission. We too are called to share the gospel of Jesus with friends, family, neighbors and strangers. Why? Because their belief in him will save their lives.

How to Share the Gospel in Under a Minute

We know that sharing the gospel is a daunting and scary task. Telling such a big story can feel like a lot. And what if you only have a few moments to do so?

The truth is that sharing the gospel is simple. And here’s another truth: We’re not sharing it alone. The Holy Spirit is with us! In Luke 12:11-12 (NIV) Jesus tells us:

“When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.”

You can have confidence in knowing that the Holy Spirit is with you as you speak to others about Jesus. And if you ever find yourself in a moment where you lack the words, he’s faithful to step in. How incredible is that?

Now how do you share such a big story, even in a little bit of time? Here is how to share the gospel in under a minute:

God created us to be with him eternally, but our sins separated us from him. Jesus paid the price for our sins by dying on a cross and rising again. Now everyone who trusts in Jesus can have a life-changing relationship with him and live with him forever.

If you have a few more moments during your discussion, share what God has done in your life! His Word says that we overcome the enemy by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony (Revelation 12:11).

Your testimony is what God has done for you — and it’s powerful! It’s proof that if God can do it for you, he can do it for whomever you’re speaking to. And hearing what God has brought you through might just change their life.

Inspiration for Sharing the Gospel With Others

How about a bit more encouragement for you as you share the gospel? Countless faithful followers of Jesus have shared the good news throughout history. And while they faced challenges, they pressed on, changing lives through the hope found in our Savior.

Hebrews 12:1 (NIV) reads:

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”

That great cloud of witnesses, from Abraham to Jesus to your own church pastor and many others, is cheering you on as you share the gospel.

Here are some inspiring words from witnesses that just might inspire you to run with perseverance and courage as you spread the good news.

“The greatest need in the world today is the transformation of human nature … and that is why Jesus came into the world.” — Billy Graham, American evangelist

“If you had the cure to cancer, wouldn’t you share it? You have the cure to death. Get out there and share it.” — Kirk Cameron, American actor and author

“It is not our business to make the message acceptable, but to make it available. We are not to see that they like it, but that they get it.” — Vance Havner, American minister and evangelist

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” — Jesus (Matthew 28:19-20, NIV)

How to Share the Gospel in 5 Practical Ways

While speaking about the gospel is one way to share it, there are plenty of other practical actions you can take to shout the good news from the rooftops. Here are a few you can put into practice today:

  1. Use a simple sticky note. Did you know that a sticky note can be an incredible ministry tool? Write down your favorite Bible verse and stick it on a coworker’s desk to encourage them. Or place one on the breakroom fridge.
  2. Pray for someone. Sharing the hope found in Jesus often means stepping up when someone is suffering. One way to do that is to pray. For example, do you have a friend confiding in you about a struggle they’re going through? Ask if you can pray over them and their situation. Taking the time to pray for them is a demonstration of Jesus’ love for them.
  3. Wear your heart on your sleeve. Literally! Find a shirt, hat or other clothing item that features your favorite Bible verse or gospel-focused message and wear it proudly. You don’t know who you might speak to in this way without ever saying a word.
  4. Perform a small act of kindness. Jesus performed many big miracles in the Bible. But he also showed his love for others by doing the “small” things. For example, he washed his disciples’ feet (John 13). He praised a widow for giving what little she had (Mark 12). He let the little children come to him instead of pushing them away (Mark 10). But these small acts? They made huge impacts on the recipients. Our small acts of kindness can do the same! Buy someone’s coffee today. Call a friend just to check in. Living lives of simple kindness can speak volumes to those around us.
  5. Serve someone in need. Jesus was a servant. In the Bible, we find him feeding the hungry and caring for the sick while sharing the gospel. He met the physical needs of others as well as their spiritual needs. Why? It’s hard to grasp the good news of the gospel with a gnawing belly from hunger. We can meet the needs of those around us too! Offer to bring soup to a friend who’s sick. Take some groceries to the struggling family next door. Or become a sponsor to provide critical care to a child living in poverty.

We hope this guide has helped you feel more confident about sharing the good news of Jesus with those around you. If there’s one thing to remember, it’s this: God’s with you!

When fear tries to creep in and say things like, “Who are you to share the gospel?” or “You’re going to fail,” know that these are lies. Instead, look to the truth in God’s Word. Isaiah 41:10 (NIV) says:

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Take courage, friend. When you’re sharing the hope of the gospel, you’re following Jesus’ call. And he’s faithful to walk alongside you.
