“Blogging from the Boonies” is Michelle Wright, grand-prize winner of Blog Month! Michelle is a Compassion volunteer, sponsor, blogger, wife, mom and so much more.
But we’ll stop talking now and let you read the words she shared with God in Blog Month, assignment two. Take it away Michelle …
Dear God,
When I think back to that conversation I had with a friend in May of 2009, what stands out is that nudge I felt in my heart. When she mentioned getting a letter from her Compassion International child, I knew that, without a doubt, I needed to look into the organization.
I felt that same unmistakable nudge to my heart when I first laid eyes on the shy face of a little girl from Ghana.
As I looked through the children on the Compassion website, wondering how we could possibly choose, the message came loud and clear when my focus landed on Precious.
“Here is your child.”
I didn’t know, when I clicked the Sponsor This Child button, that You were planning to take this small step and change the direction of my life.
But You did.
A changed perspective. A passion to change the lives of the “least of these,” one child at a time and one sponsor at a time. A heart broken over the way some in this world suffer and a heart renewed to see miracle after miracle.
In this journey You have laid for me, You have helped me to be more open to your gentle promptings. You have helped me to be more obedient when I feel that now familiar nudge on my heart.
You have helped me to see how blessed we are with “enough” and how we can actually do something when we decide not to do nothing.
Father, Your Word tells me:
“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
“And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
“As it is written:
“‘They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.’
“Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.
“You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.” — 2 Cor. 9:6-11, NIV
While I still feel so very young in my faith and my walk with You, my faith is strengthened to see how the promises in Your Word ring true. You have blessed us so abundantly.
Lord, I just thank You. Thank You the path you’ve set before me. Thank You for all of the beautiful children You’ve put in my life. Thank You for seeing fit to use me, in some small way.
Thank You for nudging my heart and changing my life in a hundred different ways.

Thank you, Michelle. Your blog is one of the few I always read. Thank you for listening and then following God’s prompting in your life.
Michelle, thanks for suh an uplifting story. Sponsorship of a child is a great honor and priviledge. Being able to see the world through our sponsored child’s eyes is a wonderful experience.
