3 Inspiring and True Stories of Healing
The Bible holds many incredible stories of Jesus healing those around him, changing their lives. But Jesus is still healing today too. Let these true accounts from Scripture and today inspire you to keep the faith as you wait for healing.
A Paralyzed Man Walks Again
In Mark 2, Jesus visited a house in Capernaum and was greeted by a large crowd of people in need of healing. There were so many of them that there wasn’t any room left inside the home.
Soon, four men arrived carrying a paralyzed man. But because of the crowd, they couldn’t reach Jesus inside. So the men made an opening in the roof and lowered the man down in front of Jesus.
Seeing these men’s incredible faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven” (Mark 2:5, NIV), healing his soul forever.
Nearby, some teachers of the law were enraged at Jesus’ act. They asked themselves, “Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” (Mark 2:7, NIV).
But Jesus knew what they were thinking. To prove to them that he was the Son of Man with authority on earth to forgive sins, he told the paralyzed man to get up and walk. So the man did.
“I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!” — Mark 2:11-12, NIV
The Woman With the Issue of Blood Is Made Well
In Luke 8, Jesus was once again surrounded by a large crowd of people in need. A woman was there who had been bleeding for 12 years, and no one had been able to heal her. Knowing that Jesus could heal her disease, she did what she could to reach him.
When she got to Jesus, she reached out and touched the hem of his garment. And immediately, her bleeding stopped!
The woman fell before Jesus, telling him that she had touched him and had been healed. Jesus replied, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace” (Luke 8:48, NIV).
Ricardo Escapes Death Through Incredible Healing
While the examples above are found in the Bible, the story of Ricardo, a Compassion kid, shows us proof of God’s healing power for our bodies and souls today.
After an appendectomy, Ricardo suffered a perforated intestine and a painful infection. And the doctors didn’t think he would make it. Ricardo’s mother, Fanny, reached out to Ricardo’s Compassion center and asked for prayer. After all, she knew God could help Ricardo even when the doctors couldn’t.
Ricardo’s Compassion center directors visited him and prayed over him. As they did, Ricardo began to feel peace. He began trusting in God for his physical health but also gave God his heart.
“I want to live. I don’t know what will happen tomorrow, but I want to live today holding God’s hand.” — Ricardo
Soon, Ricardo was able to leave the hospital and return home. The local church stepped in and provided funds for his medication and other needs, further supporting his healing.
Now Ricardo dreams of a brighter future. While his body bears the scars of surgery and pain, his soul bears the hope of Jesus. Ricardo knows that no matter what tomorrow holds, he has the promise of eternal life.
Remember, as a Christian, you too have the promise of eternal life. Our day-to-day lives will bring us all kinds of things that hurt us, from illness to loss. Even Jesus said in John 16:33 that in this world we’ll have trouble. But there’s good news!
Jesus is the Overcomer. No matter what today throws your way, you can have peace in knowing that he has overcome the world. And when all the temporary things pass away, all of us will be made totally and completely whole again in him.
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” — John 16:33, NIV
