You’ve heard us say it before — writing letters to your sponsored child is SO important. Your letters bring hope and remind your child that he or she is loved, even from thousands of miles away.
But if you’re not convinced yet, that’s OK! Because we’ve got firsthand testimonies that your letters have power — testimonies provided by Compassion center directors themselves.
Center directors are the men and women who lead each of the Compassion-assisted child development centers at local churches around the world. They oversee the programs, pour into the lives of local staff and volunteers, and ensure high-quality care for children. To learn more about the important role of center directors, check out this blog post.
A few months ago, we asked every single Compassion center director around the world about the impact letters from sponsors have on the children at their center. And their answers are pretty incredible. Get ready to be inspired.
Inspiration From Africa
“I have observed that sponsor letters are like tools of motivation for children and are like a bank where children can draw hope and love. The arrival of the letters from the sponsor is like the arrival of the sponsors themselves.”
— Jackson, Tanzania
“Your words of advice, congratulations and encouragement lead children to strive for excellence in all areas of their lives.”
— Konvi, Togo
“Exchanging letters between children and sponsors is very important. It improves children’s writing skills and enables them to understand other countries’ lifestyles.”
— Ojho, Ethiopia
“We have noticed better self-esteem in the lives of children who receive and communicate regularly to their sponsors.”
— Anthony, Uganda
Encouragement From Asia
“The effort that you take to send a letter to your sponsored child has helped them to understand how valuable they are to God and you.”
— Roshantha, Sri Lanka
“They are happy when receiving letters because they can feel the bond with the sponsors. Children’s families also feel encouraged by it. They see the sponsors as a part of their lives.”
— Patipan, Thailand
“Please take some time to write a few lines to your child when you can spare some time. They are all excited about this person who loves them from far away. We understand you have a busy routine, but if you spare a few minutes you will make a child’s dream come true.”
— Mathew, Sri Lanka
Motivation From Latin America
“Our children are happy when they receive letters from their sponsors. For them, it is like being part of a magic tale in which both you and them are the main characters.”
— Monica, Colombia
“The influence of a letter is powerful, not for the value of the paper or the ink, but for the emotional value to the children when a person takes the time to show interest in somebody that had been forgotten by society.”
— Melania, Honduras
“The letters from the sponsors are a special gift, because it shows that the sponsor loves them enough to dedicate a moment to write to them.”
— Maria, Nicaragua

Hi!, I’m a former compassion child, I still remember the postcards and the letters I received from my sponsor.
I graduated from high school thanks to compassion, and I went to college, I did had to work thru college but that didn’t stop me.. I’m happy to say that I graduated, I learned English and moved to the United States. Im a hard worker and Im reviewing the possibility of sponsor a child myself. I would love to be able to bring the excitement that I once had when I received those letters and the hope that comes with it.
I’ve had my compassion child for 16 years. Now Brian is a man. We write to each other regularly. I love sending him pics of my family and love reading my Family all of his letters. Soon Brian will be graduating from the Compassion program. So my thoughts to those out there that sponsor a child, write to them and stick with them through the whole process. It has been an amazing journey for our whole family.

So encouraging to hear that the children love our letters and our words that let them know how much they are loved by God and by all of us.
I too love hearing back from my little guy, it brings such joy to my day and I love sharing my letter with my family.
Peace and Grace be with you.
When we first started writing to our little Teti we weren’t sure what to say but now we are sure that God has a plan for us and Teti and bringing her to us has been a blessing that we can hardly contain the love and joy we have for her and our prayers are with her each and every day. As we watch her grow in the Lord.
Tammy and Mike,
