Images of Child Development Centers in Haiti

UPDATED: Jan. 29, 2010List of child development centers affected by the Haiti earthquake

Here is a Google Earth image showing the approximate location for the earthquake’s epicenter in relation to our child development centers.

The image is just intended to give perspective not definitively identify where all the centers are located. However, there is a discussion thread in Facebook about the location of some centers.

The fact that many development centers are so close to one another means that some centers can’t be seen. And obviously the size of the image makes it difficult to read the numbers that are visible. We published a larger image in Twitpic and in Facebook.

The blue icons represent child development centers, and the red icons represent child survival programs. Most red icons hide behind the blue ones, but for some reason a few show through.

The orange circles represent earthquake activity in the last week (or so).

Here is an additional Google Earth image that highlights a 750 square mile section of Haiti relative to the earthquake so you can more clearly see which child development centers are closest to the epicenter.

We published a larger image in Twitpic and in Facebook.

This graphic is a year old but it is still valuable in helping identify the proximity of a child development center to Port-au-Prince.

We would appreciate any help in locating the center on the map

    1. Christina Wilson May 8, 2017

Hi Johnny! I am happy to help you locate your child’s center! Regrettably, I was not able to locate your sponsor account by your name and email address. Will you please provide either your sponsor number or your child’s number? If you do not feel comfortable providing this information publicly, you are welcome to email us at [email protected]. Thank you!

  2. Dorothy March 13, 2017

Your style is very unique compared to other people I’ve read stuff from. Thanks for posting when you’ve got the opportunity

  3. Lisa October 19, 2016

My child’s center does not show an ID, it is simply listed as Champagne Child Development. Can you please let me know if they are safe? I have written but it takes so long to get a response and I am very nervous.

    Thank you!

    1. Susan Sayler October 19, 2016

Lisa, I appreciate your care and concern for your child. The center number is actually the first two letters and first three numbers of your child’s ID number. Wolphmy is not currently on our list of those affected.

  4. Cathy Collins February 5, 2011

I sponsored a child Darlene Paul Ha-158. For some reason she is not in the program any longer. Can you please let me know any information about her, or the area she was in during the earthquake? It is very discouraging to sponsor a child, and then loose all contact without knowing the circumstances of them leaving, or if they are ok.

    1. Becky February 6, 2011

Cathy, while I do not work for Compassion, I strongly recommend you call Compassion and ask them what happened. Everyone I know (from OurCompassion.org, a website to connect with other sponsors) who has had a child leave the program for any reason has always received a letter or phone call from Compassion with more details about why the child left. In my case I received a letter from the child’s project director detailing why my child left. I can’t tell from what you wrote if the child left the program recently or awhile ago. Sometimes, the transient world our sponsored kids live in means they leave the area without notice and no reason given. Once kids leave the program, Compassion no longer has information about them as the local church keeps records of current children and not what past children are currently doing. So, if your child left the program before the earthquake, Compassion would not know the answers to where the child was during the earthquake nor what the child is doing after she left the program. It’s definitely hard to lose a sponsored child, but we can continue to pray for our kids, even if they are no longer in the program, and look forward to a reunion in heaven.

  5. Lucia August 19, 2010

My name is Lucia Louissaint, I was sponsored by someone in compassion; however I can’t remember the name of that person. I want to say thank you to all the families in U.S who is helping kids around the world. May God continue to bless you all. I want to do the same too by sponsor a kid from any country. I just want to meet that person who help me in Haiti. Once again thank you compassion for all the help.

  6. Becky March 23, 2010

@Christine, on OurCompassion.org, which is a website for connecting Compassion sponsors and people with a heart for Compassion, there are 15 people who sponsor kids from HA778. If you join then you can send messages to them and ask about what information they have heard. One sponsor mentions they heard their child is alive but home was damaged and another one’s status indicates she has not yet heard about her child. OC (nickname for OurCompassion) would be a great place to find a prayer partner of someone who has a child in the same project! There also are several groups about Haiti where people pray for their kids and post what Compassion has told them about their children.

@Sarah Rose, there are 20 sponsors on OC who have kids in HA739.

  7. Sarah Rose March 20, 2010

My child is Samantha HA-739. I have been her friend/sponsor for I think about three years. Re: her whereabouts, I cannot get a sense of her. Often I can, regarding a situation, like the time I knew I would be getting my grandkids. Sure enough the call…”Mom….? Three years! Now I have only a sense that Samantha is okay but that can go both ways. She is either okay here, or with her Heavenly Father. I look forward to hearing of her or from her. I have sent her a message. God blessing and strength to all of you who are giving your life to rescue these kids. And God’s peace and hope to all us sponsors who wait.

  8. Christine March 20, 2010

It looks as though no one has posted on this blog since February 2010. Has this conversation moved to another blog? I would like to speak with others, especially if there is anyone else that has a child at HA 778. The maps on this page were partially helpful… I would love a prayer partner on this. Thank you

I don’t know what that means. I wish there was some way I could give you my email without posting it to everyone at once! Do you know of any way?

I thank Sarah Rose for her reminder that those called home are dancing and worshiping with Jesus and we can rejoice that they are. Dear Lord, I don’t question your sovereinty. There is much we won’t understand until we stand with you in eternity. I look forward with eager antcipation for the amazing works You will accomplish in the midst of this diaster. My heart is broken for the people of Haiti. May Your people rise to the occasion and good triumph over what was meant for evil. Bless Your faithful servants in Haiti.

  52. Janice Bomberger January 24, 2010

Dear Patrick, Thank you for the update on the location of Anse-`a-Galet (HA312)to the epicenter of PaP. We still haven’t heard of Yvan’s situation and are earnestly praying for him and his family.

  53. amanda January 24, 2010

@Kelly – my sponsored child is also in HA-804. I don’t know how much this helps, but I understand that 804 is north of the epicenter area, but I do not know how far nor how much damage the Tabarre region sustained. I did notice from Compassion’s updates thus far that #804 is not on the list of the 28 (of 50) affected centers they’ve visited to assess damage. I also just keep praying for my child too, as well as all of the people in Haiti!

  54. Kelly January 24, 2010

Here is the email we received last night from our New Zealand Tear Fund office…perhaps this helps… although it is very hard news to read….Dear TEAR Fund Haitian Sponsor,

We would like to give you a quick update on what has been happening in Haiti and what our sponsorship partner – Compassion International is doing for your sponsored child.

More than a week after the massive earthquake rocked Haiti, recovery efforts are in full swing and communication channels are finally slowly beginning to flow through. The sporadic communication and transportation problems in Port au Prince initially hampered Compassion’s attempts to provide assistance and gather information about each development centre and each child and family.

The latest estimates are that about 50 child development centres were seriously affected by the earthquake. Compassion has presently made contact with 28 projects and have reported that there are 120 deaths, 42 severely wounded, 218 with fractures, 1,270 homes destroyed and 686 homes damaged. These numbers include children, family members, staff and church members. We continue to work diligently with Compassion to collect accurate information to share with you. We would appreciate your patience with us as this process will take some time.

Please be assured that if your child was affected by the earthquake, we will contact you directly with specific information when we receive it.

Due to the uncertainty of security and flights into Port-au-Prince, supplies are being flown into Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic (DR). From there, a team will move the supplies to our warehouse on the DR/Haiti border. Supplies will then be broken out into smaller shipments and delivered to our church partners and the children and families they serve. Compassion is also currently assembling a medical team to travel to Haiti to address the overwhelming medical needs.

Please pray for your sponsored child and family. Please also remember the staff in Haiti. Especially remember those who are mourning the loss of their loved ones. Pray that God will give them the strength and courage in their time of need as they reach out to help our children and their families.

If you have any other questions regarding this information, please do not hesitate to call us on 0800 800 777 or email [email protected]

Thank you again for your patience and prayers for Haiti at this time.

My little girl, Samantha is in the Bourdon Child Development Center. From the map it appears to be in the Capital. To all of us, Jesus sends His peace. All our children who were called home, are being cuddled in the arms of our Lord. All their tears, pain, and poverty are washed away and they are dancing and singing. Who could want anything more! For those who remain we hold up to Him for his mercy to their needs. God Bless

We pray for all of those who have suffered such devistating loss. May God bless this poor country through this terrible time…May Compassion International receive all of the support and help necessary to carry on.

We are from New Zealand and sponspor two boys Shilton and Rueben, through Compassion International in Leogone HA152. If anyone has any information. Tearfund NZ spoke to their staff two days ago and posted this:

TEAR Fund is relieved to hear that its workers on the ground in Haiti are safe even though their headquarters are uninhabitable, however a text communication from a staff member paints a grim picture of the situation in Haiti, said TEAR Fund NZ acting executive director Jon Horne.

The text message read: “Black. Dire. scores perhaps hundreds of bodies strewn on sides of roads. No businesses open. Some places more than half of buildings down. “

  138. Pat & Liz Gailer January 17, 2010

We too have two little boys HA152, only a few KM’s from the epicentre in Leogane, which apparently has 90% damage. Of course, we are very upset and worried, but just have to wait. Their names are Shilton, and Ruben. If anybody knows anything, please post. Regards

I am praying for all of the compassion children, their families, the staff, the churches and all who have survived and are trying to do what they can. My son’s name is Wendy. He is located at HA353 which is right where the earthquake took place. My heart hurts for him and his family, but I know that our Lord and Savior is with them all. I haven’t seen any comments on HA353. Do we know if the Eglise Mission Evangelique Baptite du Sud d’Haiti Church is still standing or is ok. My family longs to here about our son. God be with everyone during this crises. We love him so dearly.

  140. Stacy Doerler-Antonucci January 17, 2010

I guess conditions are so bad that it is difficult to know what these outlying areas are like, however, would be glad of some info.
Thank you everyone for your support and info.

  151. Dave January 16, 2010

My brother is a Compassion employee (he does not work in Haiti) but has been in country since Wednesday. In a satellite phone call to his wife, he said that the conditions are beyond comprehension. The people are shell shocked, unable to function. Everyone has lost family members. In his many years, my brother has seen more tragedy than most of us could imagine. Keep the Haitians and all those around the world who have dedicated themselves to helping the truly poor, keep them in your prayers.

  152. Lori January 16, 2010

Does anyone have any information on HA-724? Our sweet Jessica is there and I was hoping to find some info on how far away from the epicenter that was. Looks to be about 15 miles or so? How far did the damage go? Is there anyplace that Compassion is posting the names of children by their HA # as they find them?

  153. Dianne Smith January 16, 2010

Our lovely Hophney is in Centre 751 and looks to be close to the epicentre. I keep praying for news. Her school was damaged but no one hurt. I just don’t know about where she lives.

  162. Jennifer January 15, 2010

  168. Patricia Davis January 15, 2010

I am almost certain my little girl Mona, who lives near Cap-Haitien was not affected by the earthquake. Praise God! My boy Jacques lives in southern Haiti on the coast near Cayes or Les Cayes. I am not sure about his status. Please pray that he and his family are okay. We are praying for the country of Haiti and all the people. I wish I could come down there and help.
    Pat Davis

  169. Kristina Willyard January 15, 2010

749 is by Saint Marc, North of Port-au-Prince across the Bay.

  170. Dennis Bryski January 15, 2010

    Anyone know where 749 is?

  171. Sharon Lynn January 15, 2010

My little girl, Claudine is in HA 791 which is near Port-de-Paix which looks to be way up north from Port-au-Prince. However, I am just wondering if since it seems to be near the coast there might have been any problems for her from that?

I do pray for ALL the people of haiti and all the relief groups. May God be with everyone.

  172. Julie January 15, 2010

We are diligently praying for all in Haiti. Our child is Odline in HA-627 which is not close to the epi-center. However we are still concerned for as she is only 6. Lord protect everyone. Hold our little ones and their families safe in your arms. Gaurd them against fear of after shocks. Help them to understand this. Help all the sponsors locate their kiddos soon. Thank you Lord for allowing us a place to come together and pray for our kiddos.

  173. Cynthia January 15, 2010

    Patrick-
Thank you so much for all the information you have graciously given. I thought Kenia, our young friend, appeared to be close to the earthquake. You confirmed this to be 7 miles. Please continue to pray.

  174. Vickie January 15, 2010

HA726 is in Carrefour also. Carrefour is located about 8 km (5 miles) South of Port-au-Prince. The epicenter of the 7.0 quake was 10 miles SW of Port-au-Prince. So it was very close to Carrefour.

  175. Amanda Burlock January 15, 2010

    Patrick,
Thank you so much for the location and God Bless You! My heart is put at ease knowing that our little Milove is hopefully far enough away from the quake epicenter not to be too affected. However, our prayers are lifted to the Lord Jesus for all of the children and families who have been touched. We continue to keep the beautiful people of Haiti in our prayers.
    In Him,
    Amanda

  176. Patrick January 15, 2010

  178. Lynn January 15, 2010

Our child, Rose is HA-669. How far is she away?

    Thanks!
    Lynn

  179. Patrick January 15, 2010

Dr. Charles: HA747 is on the northern part of the island, about 75 miles from PaP and 80 miles from the epicenter.

  180. melissa yamasaki January 15, 2010

If anyone has information about the 751 area, please post. Our sponsored child, Jonathan, age 9, is in this area. We are praying for him and his family as well as all the Haitian people.

  181. Chris Lockyer January 15, 2010

Disasters like this are the greatest opportunity to show what online collaboration can achieve in the real world. These visualisations are great. There are updated interactive maps here for Haiti earthquake and the international response.

  182. Pam January 15, 2010

Thanks so much,Patrick, for helping us locate our centers. My child’s project is about 25 miles from the epicenter. (Does anyone know how far from the epicenter the destruction occurred?)

  183. Rev. Dr. Charles & Rev. Karen Metteer January 15, 2010

If you come across it in your coordinates, would you be so kind as to let us know where HA747 is located? God bless
and keep you in your efforts!

  184. Miracle January 15, 2010

God bless you for helping these families locate their children’s center.

  185. Patrick January 15, 2010

Before I post this, I want to say that we have coordinates for many of the Haiti projects. About 50 others we just have the general area, i.e. “xx kilometers from __________” I have the exact location for many, but it will take time for us to get the remaining locations. The country office has to travel to each project and take the GPS coordinates. But I will do my best to find the area your child is in.

Larry: HA319 is across the bay from PaP, about 25 miles away from it and the epicenter.

Kimberly: HA399 is on the southern outskirts of PaP, about 3 miles away. It is also about 16 miles from the epicenter. (no coordinates)

Becca: HA770 is on the southwest side of the island, about 72 miles from PaP, 57 miles from the epicenter and 22 miles from the nearest aftershock.

Janice: HA263 is on the tiny island just to the northwest of PaP. It is 50 miles away from PaP and 40 from the epicenter.

Donna: HA744 is on the far north side of the island, about 80 miles from PaP and 90 miles from the epicenter.

Cindy: HA672 is on the tiny island just to the northwest of PaP. It is 40 miles away from PaP and 35 from the epicenter. (no coordinates)

Gayle: HA792 is on the far north side of the island. It is 80 miles from PaP and about 90 from the epicenter.

Marylou: HA254 is on the eastern outskirts of PaP, about 4 miles away. It is also about 18 miles from the epicenter.

Betty: HA300 is on the far southwest corner of the island, about 80 miles from the epicenter.

David: HA633 is on the north side of the island, about 70 miles from PaP and 80 from the epicenter.

Pam: HA218 is on the south side of the island, about 25 miles from the epicenter. (no coordinates)

  186. Melissa January 15, 2010

Alan, the first 3 numbers of your child’s number indicate the center. In a made up example a child number HA9990001 HA is the country code–Haiti, 999 is the center code, and 0001 is the child identifier at that center.

  187. Boyd Griffin January 15, 2010

We are praying for Jacques in HA-628 as well as all of Haiti. May our Lord Jesus Christ be glorified through this tragedy and may many come to salvation because of this. We pray for those going to help and for strength for those waiting for help.
If anyone hears of the conditions in HA-628 please let us know. It was a blessing to see the evening news showing people in Haiti praising God last night.

  188. mary clutterbuck January 15, 2010

The LORD is in control; He loves His people; Lord, please protect and save those you love; comfort them in their distress; show us how we can pray and help and how to be obedient to you; my prayers especially for Andronicus and his dear family: Papa Joseph, Mama Joseph, Fritz Simon and Blondine. May your mighty name be glorified through this terrible disaster Amen

  189. Terri January 15, 2010

We are praying so much for all the Compassion people in Haiti as well as the others who are in this tragic situation. We are thankful that our little girl, Westerline, is far from the epicenter in 199, however I know this will affect the entire country.
Will be sending in a donation and we encourage others to.This is an organization we can trust.

  190. Pam January 14, 2010

I am trying to locate HA218, where our new sponsored child is. I THINK I might see it to the southwest of Port au Prince, but I’m not sure. If so,it appears to be in an affected area (?)

  191. Vera Diehl January 14, 2010

Is anything known about the Mirebalais center, about 25 mi. NE of Port-au-Prince? I’m praying for Marie and family, as well as the other children and families.

  192. David Bann January 14, 2010

I’m looking for Rodelyn (HA-633) We’ve been sponsering him for thirteen years. I’m very concerned for him and his family. Can someone tell me where his center is on the map. God bless Haiti.

  193. Betty Lin-Fisher January 14, 2010

If I’m looking at the right number, our sponsored child, Jean Renet is at HA300 in Les Cayes, which I think is 70 miles west of Port au Prince. I can’t find that center on the map and any update? thank you.

  194. Marylou January 14, 2010

I was wondering if anyone knows how far Puits Blain this is where the center is that My Buly is at his center number is 254…can anyone give me any information?

  195. Alan January 14, 2010

Where do you find what center your child is at? I looked at my child’s online profile and could not find it. I found the name of the city and that it’s 2 KM south of that city, which appears to be 68 miles from the epicenter of the earthquake.

Does anyone have any idea what the effect the quake had that far away?

  196. Shannon Gunn January 14, 2010

We sponsor Belandi, and I think she is in center #314. It looks pretty close to the epicenter, and they are still getting aftershocks! Our prayers are with her familiy and all the other children at that center and in Haiti. I look forward to any information about her safety.

  197. Gayle January 14, 2010

Our Miquetha is HA792. Can’t see it on the map???????

  198. Cindy January 14, 2010

Does anyone know where HA672 is located?

  199. Erin January 14, 2010

HA 314 is quite near the epicenter. It’s just a bit to the west, on the coast. If you can see HA748 sticking out in the ocean, 314 is a bit southeast of there, in a cluster of 3.

HA 754 is near the border with the Dominican Republic in the east, very near the south of the country. If you can see HA 610, it’s right next to that.

Praying for all of your kiddos in Haiti tonight.

  200. Donna Beltz January 14, 2010

My Compassion child is Ditela Dorval, at HA-744. I do not see it on the map, and am hoping that means it is far from the epicenter. Is there any way to tell if she – or her center – is ok? I’m praying and praying. Thank you and God bless you!

  201. Janice Robinson January 14, 2010

Praying for all tose affected by the earthquake-please tell me how child no HA-263, Wilfort is-he & his family when known.

Our Bible Study group sponsors a child, Wilfort at Lotore Child Dev. Centre-his number is HA-263. We would love to know how he is, he & his family & if Lotore is near the epicentre or what? We are praying for him & all the others affected by this terrible earthquake. God bless all of them & those helping in the situation. I will send an extra donation today.

  203. Becca A January 14, 2010

Our child Judeline is at Lazile Center HA770, I’m sorry to be a pain but I can’t locate this anywhere. We are so worried about her and her family!

Does anyone know where HA763 is? Having an issue locating it on this map. Thanks!

  214. Jessica Hutchison January 14, 2010

HI… for all of you trying to locate your child’s center on a map… I found that matching the map provided by Compassion to the maps on Google Earth you can type in your child’s precise location city and then you can zoom in and out… helps to give a visual at least… maybe try that! =-)

  215. Michelle January 14, 2010

Here is a link to the Flickr map of Haiti. If you check it first, you can see the general area…. and then compare it to the earthquake affected map. But the Flickr map can show you clearer where the centers are.

    Hope everyones’ children are okay…

  216. Stephen M. Betters January 14, 2010

Our child David is in HA727. Unable to locate on larger map. Any help locating I would appreciate. Continue to hold all people of Haiti in our Hearts and Prayers.

  217. Kimberly Heikkinen January 14, 2010

We sponsor Jose HA801 @ project Plaine de l’Arbre Child Development Center. Where is that on the map?

  218. Emily Venesky January 14, 2010

My sponsor child is Marven and is at HA-800. I can’t seem to locate that number on the map even when I went to the full-size image. We are praying for all of the children and their families.

  219. Jami January 14, 2010

Can anyone see the teensy map well enough to tell me where HA-740 is…? My little Chilove is in there somewhere <3

  220. Pat January 14, 2010

Thank you, Chris! I see it now. I am relieved it is not too close to the Epi-center. However, I see why she is so worried about hurricanes!

  221. Cynthia January 14, 2010

My child is HA-748. This appears to be close to the earthquake. Petite Rivere Leogane is the name of the center. I am so worried! Her family lost everything in the flood a little more than a year ago. We are fervently praying for all the children, families and teachers.

  222. Chris Giovagnoni January 14, 2010

    Pat,

HA761 is visible in the lower left-hand corner of the map. Look directly left of the words located in the bottom center of the map.

  223. Pat January 14, 2010

The numbers are too small so I cannot identify them. My child is in HA-761 (Point-Est). Please help me identify where that is on the map. Thank you!

  224. Chris Giovagnoni January 14, 2010

HA219 is on the little island directly across from the epicenter.

  225. Cathy Rough January 14, 2010

We sponsor Rose and have found out her center is 80 miles from the epicenter. We are heartbroken over this disaster but continue to pray for all those affected by this disaster.
