Earlier this year, while her husband was on sabbatical in Peru, sponsor Eunice Lehmacher spent time at the Tesoros del Señor Child Development Center. In her time observing our ministry, she learned six small, but important, lessons.

We began our ministry in Ecuador in 1974, with the Child Sponsorship Program. In 2002, we started the Leadership Development Program and in 2006, the Child Survival Program.

It’s been nearly two years since the devastating earthquake struck Haiti on Jan. 12, 2010. We still have four strategies in process or ongoing to maintain the support and needs of our Implementing Church Partners, children, and their families.

Leadership Development Program student Lia Anggraeny is working on a degree in economics. Through all of her studies however, the greatest thing Lia has learned is that God is more than a friend or a counselor — He is her Father.

Our staff saw an opportunity where many did not, and went all-out to prove that something good could come from thirsty soil.

My husband and I discuss adoption frequently. The beauty and courage involved is alluring. But we’ve never considered if we would be willing to adopt a child who is HIV-positive.

Bludgeoned by an ax at the hands of her husband, Solomon, Chandrakanthi lay on the floor bleeding. She screamed,

“Help me, please help me!”

It was almost an hour before anyone came to her aid. Blood gushed from the deep cut in her head, covering most of the floor in the bedroom.

This is not a short story or the beginning of a novel. It is a truly horrific, yet very real, event that took place in Puwakpitiya, Avissawela, Sri Lanka.
