Through God’s unique lessons of preparation and perseverance, He uses our lives to accomplish great things for His kingdom. God chooses to allow His children to participate in His plan to restore us to Himself and bring us to eternal fellowship.

Praise God that through the local church and our program, sponsored children have access to the most important gift of all — salvation through Christ.

The de-addiction program in our ministry in India gave 705 hard-core alcohol addicts a chance to become sober and change for the good.

All eight clusters have celebrated their 100th day of their fathers being sober. I had the joy of attending one such celebration. The program involved testimonies of mothers, children, and the fathers themselves.

One such testimony of a father touched my heart deeply. He shared how he used to beat his wife and throw her and his children out of the house almost every night.

After attending the de-addiction program, his perspective toward life changed. He expressed shame and regret for having treated his wife and children badly and exposing them to danger every night.

He learned to look into the eyes of his children with love, and he saw how his children’s countenances visibly changed. He finished his testimony with a very profound thought, saying: “I may not be able to completely bring my children out of poverty, but I know I will be able to shower them with love all my life.”

This gave me a whole new perspective on the tag line of Compassion, “Releasing children from poverty in Jesus’ name.” It is not just the poverty of finances or knowledge, but the poverty of love and care that our children lack most. (more…)

Even when we don’t have a face-to-face relationship with our sponsored children, prayer can be such a tool in building that relationship. So for the next couple of months, let’s pray together, each weekend, for God’s working in these precious children’s lives.

When it comes to poverty and wealth, everybody needs faith.

Gisele’s mother was a housemaid and prostitute when she conceived her. Gisele got very little care from her mother when growing up and on many nights would be locked up in the house alone.

The poor see Jesus every day because they have nowhere else to go. Living in a wealthy society makes it very difficult to truly see Him.

One of Satan’s biggest lies is that we are too young for God to use us. When we are older, Satan will also try to tell us that we are too old to be used by God.

I remember her — a poor woman sweeping the pavement in Calcutta.

I was across the road, separated from her by cars and straining buses that leaned precariously as they traveled, overloaded and overcrowded, down the street.

She had a small child. The little girl played in her make-believe world, not knowing that the odds were already stacked unfairly against her. Odds like disease, abuse, trafficking, hunger, poverty.

As I watched, I witnessed one of the most troubling sights I have seen. As the mother hunched over, sweeping the path, the little girl took a discarded plastic cup and filled it with wastewater from the gutter.

She poured it on the concrete and began to scrub the pavement clean with a piece of litter. (more…)

Our house leaked, so water came inside and everything got wet — as wet as if we were outside. Life was very bad in this way. It made me hate poverty. I wish that Compassion had been in my country then.
